Job Description:
By clicking the “Apply” button, I understand that my employment
application process with Takeda will commence and that the

with Takeda’s Privacy Notice and Terms of Use . I further attest
that all information I submit in my employment application is true
to the best of my knowledge. Job Description The Quantitative
Clinical Pharmacology (QCP) group within Takeda R&D applies
advanced modeling and simulation approaches to optimize drug
development, inform clinical trial design, and support regulatory
interactions. Our team collaborates across clinical, regulatory,
and data science functions to deliver insights that accelerate
pipeline decision-making. As part of Takeda’s digital and data
science transformation, QCP is exploring how open-source large
language models (LLMs) and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
pipelines can streamline pharmacometrics (PMx) workflows and
regulatory query support. As a QCP AI/RAG Intern, you will help
design and implement a proof-of-concept (POC) system that
integrates open-source LLMs into a RAG pipeline for PMx code
generation (e.g., NONMEM, Monolix) and clinical pharmacology
regulatory query support. This role provides a unique opportunity
to apply cutting-edge generative AI techniques within a highly
regulated biopharmaceutical setting. How You Will Contribute: As a
QCP AI/RAG Intern, you will have the opportunity to: Develop a
prototype RAG pipeline leveraging open-source LLMs, embeddings, and
vector databases. Ingest and index internal clinical pharmacology
and regulatory documents to enable natural-language search and
summarization. Build workflows for automated NONMEM/Monolix code
generation from structured specifications, validated against
existing models. Design a chatbot interface for natural-language
queries over indexed regulatory/QCP documents with grounded
citations. Conduct evaluation of retrieval accuracy, code validity,
and regulatory response quality. Document the architecture,
methods, and findings for internal review and handover. Present
results and recommendations to QCP leadership and Takeda
stakeholders. Internship Development Opportunities: Gain hands-on
experience with LLMs, RAG pipelines, and generative AI frameworks.
Learn best-practice in pharmacometric modeling and simulation
(NONMEM, Monolix). Develop domain expertise in clinical
pharmacology regulatory filings and Model-Informed Drug Development
(MIDD). Enhance technical and scientific communication skills by
collaborating with cross-functional R&D teams. Experience
first-hand how digital transformation and AI are reshaping modern
drug development. Job Requirements: This position will be Hybrid
(1–2 days/week in office) out of the Boston, MA location. Must be
pursuing a PhD degree in Pharmacometrics, Quantitative Clinical
Pharmacology, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer
Science, or a related field. Strong programming skills in Python
(experience with LangChain, HuggingFace, or PyTorch preferred).
Familiarity with LLMs, embeddings, RAG architectures, and prompt
engineering. Prior exposure to pharmacometric modeling (NONMEM,
Monolix, or Stan) is desirable. Strong written and verbal
communication skills, with the ability to translate technical
concepts to scientific stakeholders. Self-motivated,
detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a fast-paced,
collaborative environment. Internship Eligibility Must be
authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without
requiring sponsorship Must be currently enrolled in a degree
program graduating December 2026 or later The internship program is
10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (May 26th-August 14th
or June 15th- August 21st) The intern must be able to commit to one
of these time frames Able to work full time 40 hours a week during
internship dates Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or
relocation support for the U.S Summer Internship Program Program
Highlights: Hands-on experience with real projects and
responsibilities Dedicated mentorship program pairing interns with
experienced professionals Networking opportunities with industry
professionals and fellow interns Internship events focused on
professional and skills development Exposure to multiple business
areas or departments within a Pharmaceutical Organization
Applications will be accepted between October 31st- November 16th
