Job DescriptionCell and Molecular Biology Research Scientist, Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Boston)Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly motivated and talented cell biologist to support drug discovery efforts and join our Research team located in Boston, MA. This individual will join a team of biologists to work in a collaborative setting and to independently execute sophisticated biological experiments. The ideal candidate will have experience with cell-based phenotypic assays, including work with complex cell types such as primary cells and iPSC derived systems. Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of innovation in the field of cell biology. The applicant must be a demonstrated team player, adaptable to changing needs and able to work closely and responsively within their team. The applicant will be part of a fast-paced drug discovery team. Excellent communication and people skills are required.Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct medium-throughput in vitro functional assays using human cell models (typically 384-well format).
- Support development of complex human cell models for target validation, proof of concept and mechanism of action studies.
- Perform cell and molecular biology techniques including immunohistochemistry, western blotting, qPCR, high content imaging and analysis, etc. for characterization of human in vitro.
- Analyze and present data results, and recommend courses of action based on datasets and discussions with biologists and chemists.
- Propose and develop innovative approaches to build new cell models and functional assays.
- Maintain excellent written documentation (e.g., electronic
notebook).Minimal Requirements:
- The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. with 0-3 years postdoctoral experience in Cell Biology, Biological Engineering, or related field.
- Strong technical background in tissue culture and sterile technique.
- Experience with complex disease modeling, cell line editing/engineering, qPCR, western blot, flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry and immunofluorescence microscopy.
- Experience culturing primary and immortalized myoblasts and myotubes is preferred.
- Excellent troubleshooting and multi-tasking skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a highly-collaborative team environment.
