Who are we?

Our team of Ophthalmology researchers is dedicated to the discovery and development of the next generation of transformative therapies for diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and glaucoma. Our Translational Pharmacology group is a multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative team with a focus on understanding the biology underlying ocular diseases through target validation and associated in vivo assays.

As the in vivo Ocular Imaging, Visual Electrophysiology and Behavioral Testing Lead, you will manage an experienced team of scientists responsible for structural and functional assessment of ocular health in animal models of disease. The diverse skills present in the team foster high-impact collaborations across the organization to evaluate therapeutic candidates through development of translatable structural and functional biomarkers of ocular health.

What you'll be doing:
--- Lead the development and implementation of translatable preclinical structural and functional biomarkers in the ophthalmology disease area at NIBR
--- Collaborate with other scientists to understand the impact of relevant targets on the structure and function of the eye
--- Author and/or contribute to in vivo protocols
--- Focus on career development of associates through active engagement and mentoring
--- Effectively prioritize resources to achieve the goals of the Ophthalmology group while staying within budget
--- Provide key data to enable go/no-go decisions on the preclinical Ophthalmology portfolio
--- Identify and maintain external collaborations

--- PhD preferred
--- 5+ years of industry experience or equivalent
--- Deep understanding of structural and/or functional assessment of the eye in a preclinical setting using techniques such as OCT, SLO, fundus photography, and electroretinography.
--- Creativity and curiosity to develop translatable biomarkers of ocular health with a direct link to underlying biological pathways of interest
--- Expertise in experimental design and interpretation of results, and technical troubleshooting of problems
--- Proven to be an effective manager through a focus on career development for reports

Desirable requirements:
--- Leading or providing key data to drug discovery program from early discovery to clinical trials
--- Experience with advanced techniques such as adaptive optics imaging or OCT angiography in a preclinical setting

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $151,200 and $226,800/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
