Job Description - Patient Services Coord. II (AMS) Day Shift (3236110) The MGH Anticoagulation Management Service (AMS) is among the nation's oldest and largest anticoagulation clinics. Established in 1969, the Anticoagulant Therapy Unit traditionally focused on the outpatient management of warfarin therapy. -Today the AMS has a team of 14 nurses and 3 administrative support personnel in order provide comprehensive education and management to nearly 3200 patients on all types of oral anticoagulant medications. The MGH AMS is recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Anticoagulation Forum.

  • Full comprehensive medical and retirement benefits available Reporting to the Nurse Director, the Patient Services Coordinator II (PSC II) provides administrative support to the AMS staff of Registered Nurses in a high-volume, primarily virtual clinic setting. The PSC has many opportunities to communication with patients and acts as a liaison between the patient and the nursing staff. The emphasis is placed on the ability to organize priorities, complete tasks, manage confidential patient information, schedule patient appointments and diagnostic testing, and referrals. The PSC plays a major role in assisting patients with the technical aspects necessary for a virtual appointment and setting up a Patient Gateway account. The PSC also serves as an overall resource person for patients and staff. Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of a Patient Services Coordinator, Level I, as well as: Serves as an overall resource person for unit staff. -
    • -Consistently demonstrates courtesy and respect to patients and other -customers.
    • Performs all check in functions as outlined by the MGH/MGPO Front Desk Standards of Operations -
    • Functions as a resource to patients and referring providers with -referral and insurance issues. -
    • Triages -and manages complex telephone calls and messages. -
    • Maintains confidentiality and privacy which is consistent with HIPAA guidelines.
    • Provides basic information/instructions to patients regarding Hospital and practice procedures. -
    • Will arrange for interpreter services, as necessary. -
    • Receives, sorts, and distributes mail for the unit. -
    • Faxes and receives faxes containing confidential patient information. -
    • Assures that faxed patient information is distributed to the correct provider in an appropriate time frame. QUALIFICATIONS
      • Requires a high level of comfort with computers and ability to learn new software programs; also requires literacy with Microsoft Word, and ideally has Epic experience.
      • Associate Degree, Secretarial Science or equivalent/Secretarial Certificate desired
      • Minimum of 2-4 years of secretarial experience in an acute care or high-volume, high-acuity ambulatory setting.
      • Good command of the English language.
      • Excellent telephone and customer service skills
