Our Team:The R&D Data Office team at Sanofi is continuing to build a new Data group. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Data Strategy & Governance leader to enter at the growth-stage and help shape the organization and its impact to R&D. Our team is responsible for data analysis, build, design, and deployment of Sanofi's R&D data strategy, governance, and management. We serve as an advisor, leader, and educator to colleagues and data professionals across the R&D value chain. As an integral team member, you will be responsible for defining how R&D's structured, semi-structured and unstructured data will be stored, consumed, integrated / shared and reported by different end users such as scientists, clinicians, and more. You will also be pivotal in the development of sustainable mechanisms for ensuring data are FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable).As part of this effort, our team is creating the strategy and implementing governance for data standards, ownership and access, with a particular focus on internal data generation, access, and quality, and secondary use of clinical data, as well as raw data access from collaborations.We are looking for a strong leader in our R&D Data Office team to lead and coordinate data life cycle activities from various data management science disciplines within R&D functions.Main responsibilities:

  • Establish R&D level standards on the nomenclature, content, and structure of information (structured and unstructured data) and metadata, glossaries, taxonomies
  • Define and govern rules for information, metadata and maintain taxonomy consistency
  • Drive the data strategy for R&D data office and the data governance operating model across functions
  • Define data governance operational processes (e.g., data quality measurement) in line with policies and standards, clearly articulating roles & responsibilities and establish and disseminate required frameworks, methodologies, tools, standards, taxonomies and templates to be used for Data Governance
  • Jointly with RD Digital, RD business functions, and enterprise functions (e.g., Privacy etc) define the specifications shaping the development and implementation of data foundations across R&D
  • Work in collaboration with business and R&D Digital subject matter experts to:
    • Examine multidimensional datasets and drive business processes updates to be performed and steer the respective change initiatives
    • Maintain documentation and act as an expert on data definitions, data flows, legacy data structures, access rights models, etc. for assigned domain
    • Manage and maintain data modelling methodology already established within Data Governance team
    • Educate and guide R&D teams on standards and information management principles, methodologies, best practices, etc.
    • Collaboratively plan for where, what & how standards, metadata & master & reference data are managed in systems to ensure that information provided meets expected needs of business and uses versions, dictionaries, standards, that are needed to support research and ensure regulatory compliance
    • Communicate and lead setting up business purpose, strategy and the on-going iterative approach for the knowledge and information standards activities
    • Participate in the evaluation of new technologies and innovation projects related to information management
    • Communicate internally and externally within industry on data management related topics (standards, processes and technology-enablement)
    • Manage and evolve current data integration standards policies and procedures, and data quality management services
    • Manage maintenance of data lineage and support root cause analysis and impact assessment on data related topics
    • Define and maintain KPIs on data governance products and servicesAbout you
      • Experience: 7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a strong record of accomplishments and experience in data management, data standards, governance, and processes
      • Technical skills:
        • Extensive modelling experience with standard tools (Visio...)
        • Basic programming skills
        • Good knowledge of cross-industry data standards
        • In-depth knowledge in Data governance functions, processes, technology and deliver the implementation of R&D DG operational model to drive Sanofi's transformation to be data driven organization
        • Functional skills:
          • Demonstrated leadership experience and demeanor to spearhead strategy and implementation of information standards required to meet discovery and drug development processes
          • A change agent with a combination of business, technology, and diplomatic skills, deep knowledge of drug discovery and development information and processes
          • A deep understanding of the data processes and requirements in R&D
          • Good communication skills especially using social media in enterprise
          • Demonstrated strong attention to detail, quality, time management and customer focus
          • Excellent written and oral communications skills
          • Strong networking, influencing and negotiating skills and superior problem-solving skills
          • Demonstrated willingness to make decisions and to take responsibility for such
          • Excellent interpersonal skills (team player)
          • People management skills either in matrix or direct line function
          • Ability to build business relationships and understand end-to-end data use and needs
          • Aware of industry trends and priorities and can apply to governance and policies
          • Education: PhD, MSc in computer science, software engineering, Management Information Systems, MBA or related area
