Vice President, Data Strategy and Governance
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Head, Data Strategy and
Governance are to:
- Set direction and create roadmap of Data Strategy and
Governance across R&D that will deliver business in close
partnership with RDLT members;
- Ensure the delivery and execution of roadmap;
- Partner with scientific experts and R&D leadership to
develop and implement world class Data Strategy to provide a
competitive advantage in disease understanding, biomarker
development, target validation, speed to develop medicines and
probability of success in humans;
- Steer and drive the application of FAIR data principles;
- In collaboration with teams across DS&AI and IT to develop
frameworks to enable scalable data capabilities;
- Develop and maintain best practices for Data Strategy and
Governance;
- Ensure organization is using cutting edge processes especially
emerging approaches, skills and technologies, focusing them on
innovation;
- Oversee, enable and steer acquisition and value generation of
external data assets in close collaboration with Data Assets and
Insights solution team;
- Establish the governance, performance metrics and quality
standards practices (committees, roles, data standards, processes,
policies, etc.) for the organization's data management and ensures
compliance across the organization;
- In close collaboration with other DSAI functions, partner with
IT and establish the provision of technical infrastructure & know
how for big data, data science ready data ingestion and
processing;
- Contribute R&D views into the design and implementation of
scalable, efficient, automated processes for Data management;
- As a lead for R&D in enterprise data board, work
collaboratively with internal stakeholders, and external partners
to drive prioritization of opportunities across the R&D
(portfolio and asset level) and lead Data
- Governance capabilities for business impact;
- Lead team to foster collaboration, encourage their career
growth, and invest in skills development. Increase the data acumen
of the broader R&D community including providing thought
leadership to the broader R&D;
- Build high performing teams and delivering best in class data
strategy and governance at scale with direct business impact;
- Develop a team culture that inspires excellence in driving
business results, an appetite for continuous improvement, and a
collaborative and congenial working environment;

values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks and
incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- A Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Bio
Medical, Data Analytics or an equivalent highly technical
field;
- Fourteen years of experience in fields of Data Strategy,
Governance, Data Products, Data Architecture, Data Science, with a
focus in life sciences industry;
- Experience in the pharma/biotech R&D from target discovery
through clinical development. Digital literacy and proven ability
to drive change using novel technologies;
- Six years' experience leading teams that have developed and
deployed Data
- Strategy and Governance with material impact leveraging most
advanced and up to date methodologies;
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams with direct
supervisory and people management responsibilities;
- Working with distributed teams across time zones and in matrix
format a must;
- Ability to work autonomously and work effectively with global
teams to get the job done;
- Have a strong business acumen and strategic thinking plus a
solid experience with digital solution roadmaps, blueprints, and
designing programs for real world solutions. Strong customer focus,
assertiveness, and precise method of operation;
- Able to communicate and present internally and externally in a
confident manner;
- Deep technical understanding of architectural dependencies of
technologies in a vast and complex environment and ability to lead
and guide experts to channel towards fit for purpose solutions that
also fit well within the standards and the digital roadmaps of
Bayer;
- Strong relationship management skills in working with business
colleagues, Digital team members, senior leadership team members,
and vendors exposure to the biopharma industry;
- Strong external network in innovative approaches to Data
Strategy and Governance;
- Team player with the ability to drive cross disciplinary
collaborations while demonstrating humility and resiliency;
- Cultural agility and experience working within a diverse and
complex organizations;
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to dive into data
models, evaluation metrics, model architecture, code, test plans,
project plans, deployments and operations;
- Comfort communicating and interacting with scientists,
engineers and product managers as well as understanding and
translating opportunities with data to a more general audience.
