Position Description

This position is responsible for applications and systems in
support of Harvard's Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) research
community. The specific systems this position will be focused on
are often referred to as Operational Technologies (OT) which are
technologies that monitor or control things in our physical
environment. In the context of research, they include research
instrumentation and related applications and infrastructure. It is
the first position as part of a collaboration between FASRC (FAS's
Research Computing) and HUIT's OT team, and as such is expected to
help support the planning for, and evolution of this collaborative
effort.
You will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate
superb technical competency, delivering mission critical systems
and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and
security.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
--- Act as senior technical contact and consultant for faculty and
their teams implementing OT & IoT systems (research instrumentation
and related applications and infrastructure) to support their
research
--- Partner with PIs and their teams to design, spec out, and make
recommendations regarding the OT systems needed to support research
activities.
--- Work collaboratively with the FASRC team to leverage the
broader team's expertise in support of design and technology
recommendations and more generally, be a key contributor to the
FASRC team.
--- Ensure the optimal implementation of solutions, by leading or
participating in projects involving teams from different parts of
Harvard, HUIT, and 3rd party partners.
--- Responsible person to ensure these systems are functioning
properly, patched and supported adequately. And when issues arise,
drive to identify root causes and remediate them.
--- Communicate effectively with all parties involved.
--- Be a contributor to roadmaps and longer-term plans to support
Research OT.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of seven years' post-secondary education or relevant work
experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
The following Additional Qualifications are strongly preferred. If
you meet some, but not all, you are still encouraged to apply; we
value employees with a willingness to learn.
--- 5 years of relevant work experience
--- Demonstrated experience with infrastructure support related to
network, server administration, operating system support and
hardware.
--- Experience with Research Operational Technology
--- Demonstrated experience in field support in complex
environments
--- Experience administering both Windows and Linux environments
preferred
--- Experience working with vendor products and understanding of
integration needs with enterprise systems.
--- Experience with a programming or scripting languages.
Certificates and Licenses
Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or
external equivalent) preferred
Working Conditions
This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. HUIT actively
supports hybrid work where business and team needs allow.
