are seeking a talented and motivated Ph.D. Nuclear Magnetic
Resonance spectroscopist to join the Synthesis and Enabling
Technologies team within the Small Molecule Drug Discovery
department at Bristol Myers Squibb. The candidate will work in a
highly innovative environment tackling new challenges and paving
the way for emerging areas of research alongside a cross-functional
team of scientists in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The candidate will
have exciting opportunities to engage in NMR research that
contribute to the discovery of new drug candidates to help patients
overcome serious diseases. The candidate will contribute to
structure elucidation, structure-function relationship assessments,
batch characterization and other relevant biophysical assessments
using NMR spectroscopy. This position will focus on all aspects of
NMR spectroscopy including the day-to-day operation of our
state-of-the-art NMR facility consisting of 400-600 MHz
spectrometers, some equipped with cryoprobe technology.Job
Responsibilities
- Apply NMR spectroscopy to gain atomic level information of
molecules from diverse drug modalities for the successful
identification and advancement of lead candidates for drug
discovery programs.
- Partner with numerous groups across our research and early
development department and effectively work with matrix teams to
meet project milestones. Manage multiple concurrent projects and
adjust to changing priorities.
- Design NMR approaches and methods which produce timely, high
quality, data driven contributions to advance our research
initiatives.
- Maintain NMR state-of-the-art facilities at BMS in Cambridge,
MA by leveraging our cryogenic NMR technology platforms and
implementing the latest NMR methodologies, pulse sequences, and
vendor product offerings.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations including routine NMR
spectrometer maintenance, instrument calibration and optimization,
software updates, and working with vendors for installations.
- Train and support medicinal chemists in the use of the open
access NMR instrumentation; provide expert guidance on available
experiments and methods most appropriate for their research samples
and projects.Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of academic / industry
experience OR
- Master's Degree with 6+ years of academic / industry experience
OR
- PhD with 4+ years of academic / industry experiencePreferred
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or
related discipline with at least 4+ years of hands-on experience in
high-resolution, solution state NMR spectroscopy
- Experience with NMR approaches for the structural
characterization of small molecules and other drug modalities is
expected; biomolecular and/or solid-state NMR is a plus.
- Demonstrated record of productivity in NMR spectroscopy as
evidenced by publications, and graduate research or industrial
positions.
- Experience with NMR spectrometers required; working knowledge
of Bruker NMR spectrometers is desired. Proven aptitude for
troubleshooting NMR hardware and software issues. Familiarity with
NMR processing software such as ACD and MNOVA is a plus.
- Thoroughly familiar with and be able to independently
accomplish acquisition and interpretation of multinuclear and
multidimensional NMR experiments.
- Familiarity with Linux systems and programming skills are a
plus.
- Critical scientific thinking, and a demonstrated ability to
carry out independent research are required. A strong interest and
motivation to learn new technologies and concepts is expected.
