Embedded within the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard, the Center
for the Development of Therapeutics (CDoT) is a highly
collaborative organization of professional scientists. Our mission
is to translate the deep biological insights originating from the
Broad community into impactful drug discovery projects. We
integrate faculty from MIT, Harvard, and the Harvard teaching
hospitals with industry partners to execute drug discovery
projects. We combine our expertise in drug discovery with the
knowledge and unique capabilities of the Broad Institute to address
a wide range of disease areas including oncology, cardiovascular
and metabolic diseases, psychiatric disorders, infectious disease,
and rare diseases.

The primary role for this position is to enable therapeutic
discovery by developing biochemical and/or biophysical assays to
guide early-stage drug discovery programs. The successful candidate
will have a demonstrated track record of developing biochemical
and/or biophysical assays to guide small molecule hit
identification, hit validation and routine screening. The role
requires the interpretation of experimental results and clear
communication of those results to cross-functional project teams.
The role will involve transferring and establishing routine assays
at external CRO's and management of those activities.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
* Biochemical and/or biophysical assay design, development and
validation
* Design and execution of screening campaigns. Data analysis, hit
calling and hit confirmation.
* Implementation of automated solutions for sample preparation and
data analysis
* Interpretation of experimental results and communication of those
results to cross-functional project team members in a clear and
concise manner
* Technical leadership and participation in project teams
* Documentation of work in a digital notebook (ELN) and routine
uploading of experimental results to a central database
* Transfer of assays to external CRO's and scientific oversight of
work at CRO's
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
* Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related life science
field with at least 2 years (Research Scientist II) or 5 years
(Senior Research Scientist I) of relevant experience
* Significant experience testing small molecules in biochemical or
biophysical assays is required
* Technical expertise in multiple biophysical (SPR, ITC, BLI, MST)
and/or biochemical (enzyme assays, FRET, FP) is required
* Experience in Mass Spectrometry is highly desirable
* A proven record of successful participation in cross-functional
project teams and communication with external vendors and partners
to achieve high-quality results
The successful candidate will be a results-focused, team-oriented,
creative, bench scientist, able to excel in a fast-track
environment. They must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and
exhibit strong problem-solving skills. In addition, the successful
candidate should be a clear and effective communicator,
demonstrating strong relational skills to enable participation in
project teams, peers, and management in identifying and achieving
research goals.
