SolutionsAdvanced Functional Fabrics of America, Inc. (AFFOA) is
one of the Manufacturing USA Innovation Institutes. Headquartered
in Cambridge, MA, AFFOA's mission is to rekindle the textiles
industry in the United States by accelerating the pace of
innovation in advanced textiles through R&D and by
transitioning advanced fiber and fabric technologies into highly
manufacturable soft systems for both commercial and defense use
cases. AFFOA partners with its member companies including startups,
universities, manufacturers, commercial industry and defense
partners to bring advanced fiber technologies to market.We are
looking for a Systems Architect to design and develop solutions
that encompass e-textile technologies such as sensors, actuators
and conductors embedded into textiles, enabling revolutionary new
system capabilities for commercial and defense applications.
Working across our member companies, you will work to integrate
advanced textile technologies into products that meet our customer
needs and serve as a catalyst to propel US-based manufacturing in
textiles. This is an exciting opportunity to drive innovation with

-Specific Responsibilities include:
- Apply consulting skills in working with subject matter experts
to develop stakeholder requirements and propose technical
solutions.
- Develop technical proposals based on proposed system design and
work with business development team to see these through to funded
programs. -
- Collaborate with cross functional partners to understand system
level requirements, derive specifications, and develop soft system
architectures consisting of sensors, actuators, textile
integration, control algorithms, and application software.
- Partner with electronics hardware and software teams along with
fiber and textile designers to lead the translation of new soft
system architectures into high-performance, reliable designs that
delight our customers.
- Contribute to advanced textile system technology roadmaps.
- Deliver executive level presentations based on detailed
analysis of quantifiable data.
- Facilitate large diverse teams across member companies,
customers and with AFFOA to deliver integrated products to our
customers.
- Characteristics necessary for success include: technical
vision; disciplined strategic thinking; analytical presentation and
problem solving skills; the ability to gain internal support; and
the ability to establish and maintain a solid working relationship
with technical staff, managers, and peers.Requirements include:
- Minimum BS in Electrical Engineering, CS or Physics plus 8
years experience; MS or PhD degree with 5 or more years of industry
experience preferred)"
- 5+ years experience as a System Architect with experience in
wearables preferred
- Experience in with smart textiles preferred
- Experience with Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and embedded
solutions development
- Proven experience with embedded solutions development from
conceptualization, through R&D, design to manufacturing of
prototype
- Ability to conceptualize, design, fabricate and test advanced
fabric materials for sensing applications
- Demonstrated ability as a team player working in a high paced,
cross functional R&D environment.
- Ability to work with Engineers, textile experts and other
partners to develop and test prototypes
- Ability to work with subject matter experts across industries
including healthcare, consumer, industrial and defense to develop
and test novel systems employing advanced fiber and textile
technologies.
- Able to work independently, with strong project management
skills in delivering on time and on budget.Work Authorization -To
conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the
International Traffic In Arms Regulations (ITAR), you must be one
of the following: a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident of
the U.S., a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C 1324b(a)(3),
or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S.
Department of State. -
