About the role:

  • We are looking for a highly motivated biologist/biochemist to characterize in vitro model systems and in vivo studies in support of ongoing programs in the Rare Metabolic therapeutic area in the Department of Rare Diseases Drug Discovery Unit.
  • Join Takeda as a Scientist I, Rare Disease, based in Cambridge, MA. How you will contribute:

    ACCOUNTABILITIES
    • Design, validate and develop cell-based assays to characterize pharmacologic responses to a range of therapeutic modalities, including, small molecules or biologics such as recombinant proteins and viral-mediated delivery
    • Conduct test article validation, pharmacology, and mechanistic studies in a variety of in vitro , ex vivo cell culture models and in vivo study
    • Utilize test articles to dissect pathways of interest and evaluate targets with a focus on metabolic pathways related to lysosomal storage diseases
    • Collaborate closely with stakeholders from other departments, prepare scientific presentations and regularly participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
    • Interact with external vendors and academic collaborators on a routine basis
    • Generate scientific reports, electronic notebook and, when appropriate, manuscripts for publication DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS
      • Outstanding technical expertise in mammalian cell culture, including primary cell culture
      • Significant experience in diverse in vitro techniques including but not limited to cellular immunofluorescence, MSD-ELISA, Western blot, enzymatic activity assays, reporter gene assays
      • Ability to develop, perform, and analyze plate-based primary and secondary pharmacology assays
      • Understand the principles of lysosomal storage diseases and the use of test articles as a proof-of-concept in vitro and in vivo
      • Generate scientific reports, electronic notebook and, when appropriate, manuscripts for publication Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
        • PhD degree in a scientific discipline (or equivalent), or MS with 6+ years relevant experience, or BS with 8+ years relevant experience
        • Strong influencing, communication and presentation skills
        • Demonstrated ability to work across functions and cultures
        • Excellent communicator, able to persuasively convey both ideas and data, verbally and in writing
        • Embraces and demonstrates a diversity and inclusion mindset and role models these behaviors for the organization
