POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE-CLIMATE COMMUNICATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT, MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI), to deepen the scholarship of ESI's climate change journalism activities and facilitate its climate journalism fellowship program. Will play a key role in advancing ESI's climate communications research agenda and lead its scholarly work around local climate journalism, resulting in peer-reviewed publications. Areas of study include local journalism's effects on climate change beliefs, attitudes, policy support, consumer behaviors, and political behaviors; and the current and future roles of local climate journalism. Will also facilitate ESI's Journalism Fellowship (https://environmentalsolutions.mit.edu/esi-journalism-fellowships/) in collaboration with a diverse set of MIT researchers and staff, external partners, and a cohort of U.S. journalists. The fellowship enables localized reporting on climate change, with a 2021-2022 focus on regions of the U.S. where climate change impacts or solutions are controversial or underreported. The fellowship offers the postdoctoral associate an opportunity to advance U.S. climate journalism as well as a case study for examining effects and implementing learnings. ESI (https://environmentalsolutions.mit.edu/) is an Institute-wide and primary effort to enlist and mobilize the substantial scientific, engineering, policy, and design capacity of our community to contribute to addressing climate change and other environmental challenges. Job RequirementsREQUIRED: Ph.D. in communication, journalism studies, mass media, media studies, or related field; published peer-reviewed research in a related field of study; experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods; self-motivation; strategic approach to work; excellent organizational, writing, communication, and relationship management skills; and ability to work independently and collaboratively, promote collaboration and cooperation, deliver high-quality results while managing multiple priorities, and manage research projects from start to publication on a deadline.
