want you on our team!Job SummaryVoyager Therapeutics is seeking a
Lead Machine Learning Scientist with demonstrable experience in
developing and delivering end-to-end ML solutions to join our new
Bioinformatics & Data Sciences team. The position requires a strong
technical background in computational biology and machine learning
with an emphasis on utilizing and developing novel methods for
engineering the next generation of AAV engineering. The goal will
be to contribute to development of novel surface protein variants
which are improved in their tissue and cell-type specificity. We
are searching for a driven, enthusiastic, and self-motivated
individual who is comfortable multitasking and working
independently on various aspects of the platform. This individual
will contribute scientific, technical, and leadership expertise to
a multidisciplinary team, emphasizing conceptualization,
experimentation, data analysis, presentation, and strategic
planning.The candidate will also be responsible for establishing
and documenting the workflow for data analytics platforms from
analysis through visualization. The successful candidate will
represent the team in multiple cross-functional research projects
and will have the opportunity to enable the next generation of gene
therapy development using Machine Learning, AI and computational
biology approaches.Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement new analytical approaches to engineer and
evolve capsid avidity and specificity, based on internal and
external data sources
- Process, analyze, and interpret data for a wide variety of
biological and clinically relevant projects to generate
statistically motivated research hypotheses.
- Establish a strong foundation for machine learning capabilities
and provide company-wide expertise
- The successful candidate will work both independently and as
part of a collaborative team to develop data analysis and machine
learning solutions to understand and interpret multi-platform
profiling data
- Mentor junior engineers and identify and advocate for processes
and discovery efforts that are amenable and can benefit from
machine-guided approaches and deep learning.
- Collaborate closely with experimental scientists to ensure that
data is effectively utilized for high level impact.
- Work directly with the scientists to develop and train on
consistent data management procedures around assay execution and
data curation
- Deploy and operationalize scalable ML models

- B.S. M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics,
Bioinformatics, Computational Biology Mathematics or equivalent
field plus a minimum of 7, 5 and 3 years of relevant experience,
respectively
- Ability to apply scientific principles in a broad range of
technical assignments, making independent decisions based on sound
scientific reasoning and analysis
- Demonstrated leadership as applied to the management of complex
technical projects
- Hands-on experience in programming and scripting languages
(Python, C++, R, etc.) along with a comprehensive understanding of
machine learning methods.
- Experience in implementing machine/deep learning solutions
using frameworks and packages such as scikit-learn, PyTorch,
TensorFlow, Keras, etc.
- Thorough understanding of variety of machine learning
techniques: clustering, decision trees, NLP, SVM, artificial neural
networks, CNNs LSTM, reinforcement and transfer learning, etc.
- Excellent communication and effective problem-solving skills;
strong tropism for teamwork; track record in serving a variety of
diverse customers and projects
- Ability to work independently, prioritize within an
interdisciplinary environment that includes (data) scientists,
analysts, business stakeholders and consultants Preferred
- Life sciences experience in industry or academia. Example:
biotech, pharmaceuticals, therapeutics, diagnostics spaces
- Experience with genomics, gene-therapy, AAV, NGS data
analyses
- Experience effectively building on big data frameworks (Spark),
graph databases (Neo4j), distributed analytics engines
(Elasticsearch), cloud services such as S3, EC2, ECS, AWS Batch,
Amazon Sagemaker to reduce runtime to train, evaluate deep learning
models
- Experience in developing data models and leveraging databases
(Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, SQL) to mine large unstructured
datasets
- Experience developing and collaborating using version controls
system (Git, GitHub) and interactive computing platforms (Jupyter
notebooks and Google Colab)Voyager Therapeutics requires all U.S.
