Job Description:
Basic Summary:
This position is responsible for providing "hands-on" training in both husbandry and technical rodent procedures. This position requires a clear and detailed understanding of vivarium operations and animal care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Animal Care Training:
Provide hands-on training of routine rodent husbandry duties including:
o Animal Observations
o Feeding
o Providing Water
o Cage changing
Technical Training:
Provide "hands-on" training in basic in vivo rodent procedures such as:
o Dosing
o Blood collection
o Anesthesia
Document training activities within a learning management system
Communicate and work collaboratively with vivarium and laboratory personnel
Assist with developing training tools and resources

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge of Federal Laws, regulations, and procedures pertaining to the care and use of research animals, and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
Experience collaborating across multiple departments
Ability to adapt to challenges with confidence and flexibility
Detail-oriented with excellent time management skills

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel and manipulate objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms and type on a computer. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works within an animal facility and with computers.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
