Senior Scientist, Investigative Toxicology

Job OverviewThe incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing in vitro cellular models within the Global Investigative Toxicology group at Sanofi. This will include working with spheroids, organ-on-a-chip, and other microphysiological system (MPS) models from various organ systems, focusing on application of these models in the field of Toxicology. Incorporating relevant endpoint assays and translational biomarkers will be a critical aspect of this role. The successful candidate will have good collaborative skills to enable work with Sanofi colleagues across sites and with external vendors, a high level of scientific rigor in their work, and exemplary communication skills.
Responsibilities

  • Independently review literature to generate hypotheses for experimental testing. Design and execute relevant experiments to test hypotheses, including completion of data analysis and data interpretation
  • Develop and optimize in vitro models, including providing technical expertise, design and execute qualification plans, establishing relevant endpoint assays, and ensuring models meet established scientific requirements
  • Collaborate with external vendors on technology and assay evaluation, where appropriate
  • Work with project teams to address and investigate safety mechanisms and help projects meet development timelines
  • Provide mentorship and training to fellow colleagues as needed
  • Author investigative reports to support inclusion of results in white papers or regulatory submissions as needed
  • Represent Sanofi on external consortia
    Requirements & Qualifications
    • PhD in toxicology, immunology, biomedical engineering, or equivalent biological field with at least 2 years of prior pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience is required
    • Laboratory expertise in cell culture (primary, iPSC), imaging (high content, confocal), molecular biology (RNA, DNA, protein) endpoints, and biochemical endpoints are required. Demonstrated experience doing data and statistical analysis with tools such as GraphPad Prism are also required
    • Knowledge and experience in organ-on-a-chip, MPS, 3D models, or complex in vitro systems highly preferred
    • Experience with immune-oncology, biologic modalities or cell and gene therapy also preferred
    • Knowledge and experience in vascular biology or liver biology a plus
    • Established record of scientific contribution in peer-reviewed journals and scientific symposiums
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      Terms of employmentOccasional domestic travel to scientific conferences as permitted by Sanofi travel policies. Availability to start in Q2 2022 or earlier.
