Job Description:

Senior Scientist, Biochemistry at Tango Therapeutics Tango is an oncology biotechnology company focused on exploiting synthetic lethal interactions to discover and develop new breakthrough cancer therapies. Our discovery efforts begin and end with patients. We have inverted the traditional discovery paradigm with our target discovery platform, where the discovery of novel targets and the associated patient selection strategy are integrated into a single experimental design. Our platform uses cutting-edge CRISPR technologies to identify novel targets for genetically-defined groups of cancer patients. We leverage the principles of synthetic lethality to find novel dependencies in cancer cells and identify the relevant drug targets. As we advance our molecules into the clinic, our trials will enroll the patients most likely to benefit from our new treatments as identified in the target discovery process, thereby enabling greater speed, success, and impact for those patients. Job Summary: Tango Therapeutics is seeking a motivated and innovative Biochemist to join our Biochemistry group, reporting into the Director of Biochemistry. The successful Senior Scientist will design and develop biochemical and biophysical assays for HTS and routine small molecule profiling against proteins of interest. They will be highly skilled in biochemical assay development, mechanistic enzymology, and high throughput screening. This individual will work closely with colleagues across different disciplines to support and expand Tango's drug discovery portfolio. The Senior Scientist will also set up relationships with external partners to support Tango's drug discovery portfolio.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop in vitro biochemical and biophysical assays for HTS and hit validation against novel targets
  • Work closely with external research organizations to generate quality data within timeline
  • Design experiments and generate data to elucidate small molecule mode-of-inhibition
  • Provide input to external partners on compound library screening and routine small molecule testing
  • Capture research experimental design, data, and protocols using our electronic laboratory notebook system and employ strong laboratory organizational skills
  • Work as part of a cross-functional project team to provide high-impact results and advance projects from hit-finding to preclinical studies
  • Organize and present data to group members and project team members Skills & Qualifications:
    • Ph.D. in Enzymology, Biochemistry, or related field or Master's Degree in related field with at least 9 years of experience with small molecule drug discovery in an industry setting or Bachelor's degree in related field with at least 11 years of related industry experience
    • Expertise with in-vitro biochemical assay design and development and familiarity with a variety of assay formats, such as UV/VIS, Fluorescence and MS-based detection assays are required
    • Hands-on experience in small molecule drug discovery including hit-to-lead characterization of small molecule candidates is preferred
    • A strong background in biochemistry and biophysical chemistry, including an in-depth understanding of enzyme kinetics and mechanism-of-action studies is preferred
    • Experience in high throughput compound library screening and hit validation strongly desired
    • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and optimize experiments
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaborating with peers
