Principal Scientist, Computational Chemistry at Fulcrum Therapeutics * Fulcrum requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Company Overview Fulcrum Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on improving the lives of patients with genetically defined rare diseases in areas of high unmet medical need. Fulcrum's two lead programs in clinical development are losmapimod, a small molecule for the treatment of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and FTX-6058, a small molecule designed to increase expression of fetal hemoglobin for the treatment of sickle cell disease and other hemoglobinopathies, including beta-thalassemia. The company's proprietary product engine, FulcrumSeekTM, identifies drug targets that can modulate gene expression to treat the known root cause of gene mis-expression. Description We are seeking a Principal Scientist to lead computational aspects of small molecule lead identification and optimization at Fulcrum. In this role, as a member of the medicinal chemistry design team, you will apply cutting-edge computational chemistry and cheminformatics approaches to support our discovery portfolio and ultimately deliver novel therapies to patients. The successful candidate will be an experienced and enthusiastic scientist who will leverage his/her computational chemistry expertise to work collaboratively with internal cross-functional team members as well as external partners to identify efficient project trajectories, formulate and rigorously test novel medicinal chemistry hypotheses, and support robust data analysis. Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the chemistry team, drive medicinal chemistry design to identify new small molecule development candidates
  • Formulate strategies, communicate and drive execution of computational approaches to solve project needs
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in application of structure- and ligand-based design as well as implementation of virtual screening approaches
  • Assist with implementation of in silico pharmacology and DMPK models
  • Serve as a key partner in optimization of the informatics infrastructure at Fulcrum
  • Assist with the evolution of the proprietary chemogenomic compound library Qualifications
    • Ph.D. in physical or computer science with 8+ years of professional experience
    • Demonstrated impact on project advancement through application of computational chemistry approaches
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines and integrate cross-functional data to drive computational chemistry strategies
    • Proficiency with a broad range of modern computational chemistry techniques
    • Expertise in ligand-based and structure-based drug design
    • Experience with statistical model building and/or machine-learning algorithms
    • Cheminformatic experience is a strong plus
    • Familiarity with the Schrodinger software suite is a plus
    • Programming skills in Python are beneficial
    • Enthusiastic team player with strong communication skills
