Job Description:

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker for a strategic leader responsible for leading cross-functional teams tasked to develop Proactive Disease Strategies for targeted diseases and to collaborate to complete Corporate Strategy and Long-Range Planning trade-offs. Once complete, the role will lead Commercial Due Diligence activities for both licensing and acquisition activities identified in the Proactive Disease Strategies. This role will also be the commercial lead for Sage's pipeline candidates from pre-clinical to phase 3 assets by creating Pipeline Asset Strategies that optimizes product value.

Roles and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Own and drive cross-functional teams that assesses and recommends strategic trade-offs to create SAGE's disease area strategies within existing and new disease areas
  • Represent Commercial Organization and perform detailed commercial analysis for disease areas strategies

  • Develop and communicate strong understanding of treatment protocols, level of unmet needs, potential patient segments, and competitive pipeline to identify prioritized targeted product concepts

  • Direct / implement strategic commercial projects to inform disease area strategies

  • Interface with Senior Level Executives across the organization to gain alignment for Proactive Disease strategies that informs Corporate Strategy

Commercial Due Diligence

  • Represent commercial function on Due Diligence teams

  • Lead projects that provide strategic insights and market knowledge to opportunity assessments/asset valuations in support of specific external growth opportunities
  • Oversee projects that perform detailed commercial assessments that includes/identifies general epidemiology estimates, current treatment paradigms, unmet needs, competitive pipelines, and target patient populations

  • Project top-line revenue forecast for each strategic scenario that identifies critical revenue uncertainty drivers; Identify commercial capability needed for success

  • Present recommendation to Senior Commercial Leadership, and potentially Leadership Team, to gain alignment for valuation

Corporate Strategy and Long-Range Planning

  • Collaborate with new Corporate Strategy function and lead assessments to make trade-off decisions to support the corporate strategy process and long-range planning

  • Develop a strategic framework for assessing trade-offs

  • Gain alignment with Senior Level Executives

Pipeline Asset Strategies

  • Be the "commercial voice" to Program Teams by providing commercial input to the Integrated Development Plan and Lifecycle Strategy, including prioritization of indications, endpoints, geographies and post marketing studies

  • Utilize patient, provider and payer perspectives to create Target Product Profiles (TPPs) reflective of the optimal value proposition

  • Create revenue forecasts based on current TPPs in collaboration with Clinical Development, Market Access, Medical Affairs, and Finance

  • When needed, collaborate with in-line Marketing with respect to co-positioning or addressing knowledge gaps

  • Direct / implement strategic commercial projects to inform asset strategies

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must thrive working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management and negotiation skills, ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action; excellent analytical skills and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.

Basic Qualifications

  • MBA Degree required, science background preferred.

  • Minimum 10+ of biopharmaceutical new product planning, marketing, market research or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading market research projects.

  • Demonstrated Strategic and Analytical skills including Forecasting.

  • Strong understanding of US market access dynamics.

  • Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders. An ability to influence for greater outcomes.

  • Can successfully navigate dynamics and relationships across departments and can translate into strategies.

  • Clarifies areas of ambiguity, identifies possible barriers to success, and creates clarity for others to make decisions.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work with urgency individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.

  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
