Job Description:

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**

Reports to the Supervising Landscape Architect in the Engineering Division and works closely with the Supervising Engineer managing community gardens. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

* Work with community gardeners and garden coordinators to facilitate and improve the community garden program. * Maintain database of active gardeners. Recommend space assignments. * Assist in outreach efforts to community gardeners, garden coordinators and potential gardeners. * Develop outreach material and support outreach sessions for potential gardeners, with a specific focus on reaching traditionally underserved communities. * Visit each of the City's 15 community gardens bi-weekly to talk with gardeners and identify any issues with the gardens. This will require evening and weekend work. Write reports documenting the findings from each site visit. * Will manage and administer space assignments, conduct community outreach to find gardeners for vacant spaces, work with gardeners to resolve issues, coordinate with DPW and other City Departments. Skills and experience related to both horticulture and community outreach required. Site visits as needed, weekend and evening work required.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:**

Background in urban gardening and horticulture. ** **Experience in Microsoft Office programs. particularly Access, Excel, and Word. Interest in community outreach and community gardens required. **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:**

* Ability to identify typical garden plants and knowledge of growing conditions. * Ability to work independently * Ability to read a map * Good writing skills * Excellent interpersonal skills

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:** Moderate physical activity including lifting, bending, squatting, stretching, pushing, dragging, reaching, and pulling. Walk and/or bike up to several miles a day. Employee will be exposed to all weather conditions.
