Job Description:

1.2 million patients benefited from Novartis Oncology therapeutics in 2020. Help us reach more patients by joining the Oncology Drug Discovery group, an early stage drug discovery team focused on understanding and exploiting the molecular mechanisms of novel cancer targets for the discovery, characterization and optimization of Oncology therapeutics. We are seeking a highly motivated, creative and collaborative protein scientist to join our team in a hands-on role to discover the next generation of innovative cancer treatments.

Your Responsibilities Will Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Engineering, production and characterization of a diverse set of proteins for use in biochemical/biophysical assays and structure/function studies
  • Development and implementation of emerging technologies with an emphasis on tools and techniques for generating proteins, peptides, nucleic acid and multi-protein complexes for use in drug discovery
  • Experimental design and analysis, interpretation, documentation, and presentation of data to the BC group and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Contribution to group organization, productivity, and expertise through collaboration and idea exchange
  • Mentoring/training of other group members on new techniques or equipment

What You Will Bring To The Role:

  • MS or BA/BS in Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Enzymology, Biochemical engineering or a related field with 5+ years or a Ph.D. in relevant field with 0-3 years of industry experience.
  • Required: Experience with protein engineering or rational design of recombinant proteins along with protein expression, purification and characterization techniques (for example SEC-MALs, DSF, DLS, SDS-Page etc.)
  • Knowledge of FPLC (AKTA) systems and purification with different chromatography methods such as affinity, IEX and SEC
  • Preferred: Experience using high throughput methods for protein library generation and/or the purification/characterization of proteins
  • An interest in understanding protein structure and function relationships, protein-protein or protein-ligand binding interactions, PTM effects and enzyme mechanisms related to cancer therapeutics Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and present data in a clear manner and use data to generate new hypotheses.
  • An excellent team-player with strong communication skills and a willingness to mentor others.
