Job Description:

The **Clinical Strategy Head, Oncology** **Development Therapeutic Area** will provide deep cancer therapeutic expertise and direction.The position, which requires expertise in immuno-oncology, is part of the oncology development management team and provides medical and scientific oversight and support to research and development projects in the therapy area. Through insights from an extensive network and clinical experience, the position ensures consistent high-quality clinical plans. The position will also establish appropriate evidence generating plans to meet the needs of patients, prescribers, regulators, payers and policy makers throughout all Therapy Area development projects. The incumbent will be key to ensuring that the unit is a world leader within oncology development, working in collaboration with highly skilled and experienced experts and leaders.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:**

Articulate and execute oncology therapeutic area portfolio strategy;

A high degree of scientific insight into projects combined with medical credibility and negotiation skills;

Work above project focused clinical/scientific staff and provide scientific guidance and medical insights where needed for optimal design of studies to meet stakeholder needs and optimize possibility of success;

Working with Global Project Heads, ensure a thorough, integrated review of external opportunities and provide recommendations to Business Development and the development team. In addition, will identify key issues that need to be optimized and provide oversight and feedback for collaborative projects;

Co-chair of the oncology Protocol Review Committee;

Be a resource and advisor to the for the strategic decisions needed in individual projects;

Provide medical and scientific guidance to project clinical leads and clinical research directors. Provide mentoring and coaching to less experienced MD's;

Work closely with the Development Head for the Therapy Area to define disease area development strategies and the creation of a robust and innovative portfolio and rapid progression of the development pipeline;

Provide a continuum of medical and scientific expertise leadership for the Company from pre-clinical and clinical development through to commercialization and lifecycle management;

Advise on medical activities involved in interactions with regulatory authorities/agencies and key opinion leaders and/or provides leadership and serve as an advisor to the clinical research physicians engaged in these activities;

Optimal clinical development plans and protocols across projects to meet all the challenges;

Ensuring that the TA operates to the highest level of medical/clinical evidence;

Ensuring rigor of evidence generation strategies to maximize product target value;

Anticipating and mitigating risk

**Qualifications:**

MD with specialization in oncology or hematology with strong business acumen and proven ability to lead complex teams in a global environment;

Expertise & experience in the development of immune-oncology assets

Extensive clinical and research experience in the oncology area;

Experience with analyzing and supporting external innovation/business development opportunities;

Engagement in pharmaceutical drug development; basic or clinical science;

Substantial history of clinical development leadership, with deep therapeutic expertise and a successful track record in leading projects through development, registration, approval and successful market access;

Strong leadership & communication, verbal and presentation skills.

Trial protocol review and development;

Analytical and synthetic thinking skills;

Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and change;

Open minded, critical thinker;

Solutions provider, converts challenges in opportunities;

Ability to navigate the management matrix; strong people and negotiation skills;

Good motivator and mentor to clinical staff;

Hands-on experience of building and shaping a development group;

A positive, motivational and enthusiastic leader who is driven by the need to 'make a difference' to the organization and to patients with cancer.
