Join us as a Principal Process Development Engineer and you wont either. ?About the role: Reporting to the VP of Advanced Biomaterials and Process Development within ConvaTecs Technology and Innovation group, the Principal Process Development Engineers will be key members of a newly-founded, global center of excellence for Process Development. They will engage globally with new product development and sustaining engineering teams to ensure that manufacturing processes are designed rigorously and robustly, and in lock step with product design. Your key duties and responsibilities: + + Join new product development teams to lead the design and development of manufacturing processes from conception through scale up and transfer to operations + Keep abreast of state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies to recommend suitable methodologies for realizing new product designs + Work together with product development engineers to optimize new concepts designs for manufacturability + Work with operations and automation engineering teams to articulate an end-to-end manufacturing strategy from launch through to steady-state, high volume production + Build prototypes using techniques that are suitably representative of manufacturing + Model key unit operations experimentally using lab-scale models and/or theoretically computational modeling and simulation + Conduct proof-of-principle, pilot-scale manufacturing trials + Fully characterize machine/material interactions and use the data to help set raw material specifications + Design statistically sound, multi-factor process validation studies (OQs) to establish robust process windows + Use in-depth process knowledge to help inform process FMEAs, set realistic tolerances, devise sampling plans, and the like. About you + Proven, extensive experience + Knowledge of mixing technologies suitable for a wide range of polymers and viscous liquids: e.g., kneading, static mixing, and screw extruder compounding + Expertise in analytical techniques for characterizing uniformity of dispersion + Applied knowledge of viscoelasticity as it relates to polymer processing + Design of experiments (DOE) for mixing process optimization experience + Expertise in rubber, hot melt, or hydrocolloid adhesive processing is desirable + Significant experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry + Proven experience leading project teams independently + Specialization in one of the aforementioned domains: Web Handling & Converting, Mixing & Compounding, Assembly, or Extrusion + Work effectively in global, cross-functional teams + Manage multiple priorities between different projects + Agile learning capability + Creative ability to think of many different solutions to a problem + Relentlessly seeks better ways of doing things + Excellent technical and non-technical communication skills Education/Qualifications + University degree (bachelors) in an appropriate science or engineering discipline such as Plastics Engineering, Polymer/Materials Science, Biomedical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
