POSITION OVERVIEW

Location: Position to be based in Bridgewater, New Jersey or Cambridge MA.

Overview:

The Corporate Counsel for US Litigation & Investigations will be responsible for managing litigation and claims involving US-based Sanofi entities in a variety of practice areas, working independently, as well as with outside counsel and colleagues in the US Litigation & Investigations group. The position requires effective and efficient management of litigation, with an emphasis on favorable results while managing costs. The Corporate Counsel will also be responsible for providing legal support on eDiscovery, working with the Department's other eDiscovery resources as well as IS colleagues, both in the US and in Europe. The person filling this position ideally has knowledge of the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, must be an effective communicator, and have the ability to work with colleagues in Legal and diverse functional and operational areas throughout the company (such as HR, Finance, Pharm Ops., Business Development, IA, IS, etc.). The person filling this position must have the ability to analyze complex situations, develop and communicate plans of action and carry them out. The person filling this position may also provide advice and counsel on business issues and the legal implications of those issues.

Job Duties:

  • Support of a diverse caseload, including development of action plans and communication of issues, status, case developments and litigation risks. Caseload will include product liability and general commercial litigation, and providing assistance to other in-house-counsel on other matters, as needed.

  • Supervise the collection and production of documents, preserving all privileges.

  • Effectively manage outside counsel spend.

  • Analyze complex situations, develop and communicate strategies and carry them out.

  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment and current developments in those areas.

  • Advise senior Legal management of developments and risk areas.

  • Resolve disputes with other companies or individuals through negotiation or mediation with or without the involvement of outside counsel.

  • Participate in cross-functional teams throughout the Company.

  • Devise novel solutions to problems.

  • Demonstrate Sanofi values and commitment to compliance on a consistent basis.

  • Know when to escalate issues internally and with outside counsel.

  • Perform other duties as requested.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Excellent academic credentials, including a BA/BS and Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of legal experience.

  • Licensed to practice law in a US state, and either in good standing in New Jersey or able to obtain a NJ limited license for in-house counsel.

  • Proficiency with Word, Powerpoint and other corporate standard software - required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience for a pharma/biotech company, FDA or other relevant governmental agency, or for a law firm working on healthcare-related matters.
