Associate Director, Computational Chemistry at Faze Medicines

Faze Medicines is seeking an exceptional, innovative and highly motivated Associate Director, Computational Chemistry to apply fundamentals of computational sciences and knowledge of drug discovery toward the identification, design and optimization of chemical matter to influence and advance our portfolio of drug discovery programs. This person will contribute to building a strong portfolio of novel drug candidates in the exciting field of biomolecular condensates. As part of a team of outstanding scientists at Faze Medicines, this individual will have the responsibility to implement all aspects of cheminformatics, structure-based and ligand-based drug design, analysis of large biological data set from high-throughput screens as well as develop computational tools and solutions as needed. The successful candidate will be expected to work in close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including biochemists, structural biologist and medicinal chemists both internally at FAZE as well as in collaboration with CRO partners. As a member of a research team, this individual will contribute to hit validation and lead optimization efforts to deliver drug candidates that impact patients lives. The successful individual will join an enthusiastic, dynamic, collaborative and interdisciplinary team of scientists.

Your contributions may include:

  • Responsible for developing and implementing in silico drug discovery applications encompassing all aspects of cheminformatics, structure-based and ligand-based methods, analysis of large biological assay data sets, as well as developing novel computational tools and solutions that will enable FAZEs drug discovery efforts
  • Contributes scientifically and strategically within drug discovery team settings
  • Develops and delivers scientific reports and presentations internally or externally as needed
  • Functions as a scientific influencer as part of an interdisciplinary team responsible for the advancement of our research activities, project goals and company milestones
  • Participates in various aspects of the exciting new area of biomolecular condensates while contributing to growing a new company and shaping its culture

Key Qualifications:

  • PhD in chemistry with 8+ years of industry experience, or BS/MS with 12+ years of comparable work-relevant experience, with a focus on small molecule drug discovery
  • Experience in biotech and a startup mentality with the ability to get things done are a must
  • Relevant experience implementing and leveraging a range of computational methods applied to lead optimization and to drug discovery
  • Demonstrated ability to influence drug discovery efforts through implementation of virtual screens, HTS data analyses and hit expansion, structure-based and ligand-based designs as well as application of in silico predictive methods
  • A track record of communicating scientific concepts effectively, including a publication record in top-tier, peer reviewed journals
  • Ability to creatively solve problems and think critically while influencing fast-paced research teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work within a project team setting, across functions and with CRO partners
