Engineer II/III, Cell Product Development

Rubius Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a new class of medicines called Red Cell Therapeutics. Our proprietary RED PLATFORM was designed to genetically engineer and culture Red Cell Therapeutics that are selective, potent and off-the-shelf allogeneic cellular therapies for the potential treatment of several diseases across multiple therapeutic areas. Our therapies can potentially be used to kill tumors in cancer and to regulate the immune system for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. We are currently enrolling patients in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial of RTX-240 in patients with relapsed/refractory or locally advanced solid tumors. In addition, RTX-240 is being evaluated in a second Phase 1 arm of the clinical trial for the treatment of patients with relapsed/refractory acute myeloid leukemia, and our IND has been cleared by the U.S. FDA for RTX-321 for the treatment of human papillomavirus 16-positive cancers.

Summary

We are looking for an Engineer II/ Engineer III to join the Cell Product Development team to advance the upstream process development for our RCT platform. The candidate will have direct, hands-on industrial cell culturing experience obtained from prior work (ideally in biologics, gene and/or cell therapy process development). The candidate engineer is expected to be critical thinker and will leverage upstream process technologies to adopt a hands-on approach to innovate and optimize the cell therapy platform process. The job also requires the candidate to collaborate with partner teams including Analytical and Product Development and Manufacturing Sciences & Technology to facilitate rapid process development cycles.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead the development of next generation upstream process for hematopoietic stem cell expansion and differentiation to red blood cells
  • Develop and leverage high-throughput cell culturing technologies to evolve process media
  • Support the portfolio process development and on-boarding of technologies and coordination of cross-functional solutions
  • Perform data analyses, contribute to technical reports, protocols and internal/external presentations.
  • Assist project management to drive development activities, timelines and resource needs to meet developmental goals.
  • Ability to manage various priorities in a fast-paced and growing environment
  • Serve as a technical mentor for junior staff
  • Support the continued protection, creation, and expansion of companys intellectual property

Qualifications & Education

  • BS /MS /PhD in Bioengineering, chemical engineering, biology, biochemistry or related field with prior stem cell differentiation experience expected
  • BS with 8 or more / MS with 4 or more / PhD with 0-2 years of experience within biotech/pharmaceutical companies or CRO/CMO.
  • Previous experience with flow cytometry expected
  • Prior knowledge with primary cell differentiation and benchtop bioreactors including AMBR systems, process control strategies, etc. are a plus
  • Previous experience with statistically designed experiments and multivariate data analysis desirable
  • Understanding of cellular metabolism and physiology desirable
