As a member of Alnylam's Engineering Team, the Plant Engineer will support and act as a subject matter expert for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection (MEP & FP) utilities and infrastructure serving Alnylam's Laboratory, Administrative and Manufacturing Facilities in Cambridge and Norton, MA. This position will primarily support Alnylam's Cambridge Locations with occasional responsibilities and on-call back-up for the Alnylam Manufacturing Site in Norton, MA. Inter-site travel within Massachusetts is required.

Key Responsibilities

* Act as responsible engineer for systems and infrastructure including, but not limited to, city water, chilled and hot water, plant steam and boiler plants, fire suppression, building envelope, electrical and waste (aqueous and organic) systems. * Provide technical leadership for capital projects, including utility and equipment design, project management, and project engineering. Drive projects to completion to meet quality, timeline and budget objectives. Manage all assigned equipment design, procurement and startup, including specification development, procurement activities, FAT/SAT, installation, commissioning, debugging, optimization and validation support. * Develop, champion, and directly execute small to medium sized MEP / FP focused site projects, interfacing with Alnylam stakeholders and external consultants / contractors. * Evaluates existing systems across the sites for potential safety enhancements, operational cost reductions or reliability improvements. * Provide technical support, operational assistance, troubleshooting and leadership as required to other allied internal and external groups at Alnylam to maximize reliability and compliance associated with MEP/FP Systems. * Aligns and collaborates with EHS and Facilities for compliance with all local, state and federal standards and reporting. Includes compliance with Alnylam's OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) Procedure and MassDEP Permits. * Experience with oligonucleotide reagent handling systems and NFPA design / code standards is desirable. * Collaborate with Automation Engineering and Facilities colleagues for building automation system optimization and efficiency. Experience with Siemens, Johnson Controls and/or Delta Building Automation System is desirable. * Manage, review, and update engineering documentation for new capital projects and existing infrastructure, including P&IDs, specifications, and engineering change management. * Assists with the development and implementation of an engineering standards and specifications documents.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Marine Engineering or related technical field. * 5 years of relevant work experience - including design, capital projects, and operations support for the biopharmaceutical and/or other mission critical industries. * Knowledge of MEP & FP systems such HVAC (clean, lab and general), high pressure steam, natural gas, electrical and fire detection/suppression. * Knowledge of central plant system operations and utility infrastructure. * Strong understanding of GMPs (CFR, EudraLex) and good engineering practice (GEP), ASME BPE, ASTM E2500, ISPE guidance, etc.
