Senior Automation Engineer/Scientist, Laboratory Automation

Job Description:

This role will assist Beam in elevating our research capabilities by leading the deployment of laboratory automation instrumentation across the organization. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, technically competent laboratory automation engineer/scientist that is energized to join a small, fast-moving team.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Work with scientists to adapt bench top processes to fully automated workflows through programming and validation of liquid handlers and integrated automation systems. * Create actionable plans to reduce operational bottlenecks, increasing throughput and quality of data for existing processes. * Create proper documentation and provide hands-on training to end users of all methods developed as well as support for automation related issues. * Collaborate with third party vendors to evaluate and implement new technologies that will create cutting edge solutions and contribute to our automation infrastructure.


* BS in molecular biology, computer science or engineering with 5+ years' laboratory automation experience * Experience with laboratory automation and liquid handlers (i.e. Hamilton Vantage, Labcyte/Beckman Echo, HighRes Biosolutions, Precise Robotics, Tecan Fluent, or others) * The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and will be comfortable working with samples in a high throughput manner (Next Generation Sequencing experience is preferred) * Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), particularly Benchling, is desired * Programming knowledge in python, C#, or SQL are desired * Experience in a HTS or NGS Core facility are desired * Strong communication and collaboration skills
