We are seeking a Coordinator, International Advancement on the University Development Office team within Harvard Alumni Affairs and Development.

Alumni Affairs and Development (AA&D) comprises the University Development Office (UDO), Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Development, AA&D Resources, and the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA). There is a unique relationship between the University and the FAS fundraising operations, resulting from a long history in which University fundraising ultimately
grew out of College fundraising.

University Development Office (UDO)
UDO works closely with the President and Provost, and their teams, to determine their development efforts, leads fundraising for University principal gifts, initiatives and international fundraising, and coordinates cultivation and stewardship strategies for a select group of top donors.

Reporting jointly to the Director, International Advancement for Latin America and the Managing Director of Development Planning, this full-time non-exempt position in the University Development Office (UDO) works closely with senior members of the AA&D team and colleagues across the University to advance University-wide fundraising.
-- Job-Specific Responsibilities

  • Support the frontline portfolio work of Harvard's top international donors, serving as a strategy/thought partner to the University Development Office's Director of International Advancement for Latin America and Director of International Advancement for Asia. Independently and actively advance moves management around both longstanding donors and newly identified prospects, guided by an understanding of University and international funding priorities.
  • Manage the development of proposals, white papers, stewardship reports, correspondence, briefings, events, and requests for senior leadership development time. Interface frequently with donors and their staff to achieve these objectives.
  • Manage development activity for the Vice Provost for International Affairs. Consistently update donor pipeline, arrange donor meetings, draft correspondence, and determine travel strategies. Identify and execute opportunities for the Vice Provost to advance cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts.
  • Serve as internal project manager for the Presidential global advisory council, its members, and engagement year-round. To this end, proactively collaborate and communicate with fundraisers across the University who drive fundraising efforts with council members. Ensure internal transparency through individual relationships and broader communications. Externally, interface frequently with council members and their staff to share information around the council, it's convenings, and member expectations.
  • Coordinate and corresponds with international prospects as it relates to activities with the President and Provost.
  • Primary liaison for four Harvard global centers and institutes. Actively and independently collaborate with Executive Directors and Faculty Directors to support development activity and enhance strategy around top prospects. Manage development activity for key international faculty associated with these centers and institutes, arranging donor meetings, advancing moves management, and serving as a strategic partner.
  • Be the primary liaison to the Research team and the Gift Policy Committee. Manage a pipeline of international research requests and advise on due diligence needed to ensure all gifts abide by Harvard's gift policies as well as by the complex federal regulations within Section 117 and the National Defense Authorization Act. Comprehend complex federal and institutional policies and serve as a resource for international fundraisers on this topic.
  • Be a resourceful, quick thinking, and confident critical thinker. Anticipate work and act proactively and decisively. Respond swiftly to challenges. Juggle multiple and changing priorities. Be comfortable interfacing with senior University leaders and high capacity donors.
  • Understand international relations and cultural nuances in order to competently and compassionately interface with a broad range of global stakeholders.
  • Other duties as needed or required. Basic Qualifications 2 or more years of full-time work experience.
    -- Additional Qualifications and Skills --- Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, higher degree a plus.
    --- Excellent organizational skills. Capable of managing multiple assignments from multiple sources; efficient, organized, detail oriented, unflappable, and able to meet project deadlines.
    --- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to comprehend and summarize detailed and complex research reports and press articles to create briefings.
    --- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment and possess a strong commitment to client service.
    --- Must be professional, enthusiastic, collaborative, focused, motivated to learn and flexible to change, reliable, self-motivated, and able to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and experience.
    --- Experience in an academic environment and knowledge of international fundraising in a non-profit setting helpful.
    --- Ability to work additional evening and weekend hours as needed.
    --- Solid computer skills in a PC and network environment, working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

    -- Additional InformationThis position requires a 3 month orientation and review period.
