In alignment with the Novartis company strategy to 'Unleash the
Power of our People', and the Novartis Business Services - Real
Estate & Facility Services (NBS-REFS) strategy, this role is
accountable for HSE for the Americas region, including operational
HSE execution and compliance, and regional strategy and governance.
The role is a member of the Novartis HSE leadership team, and
aligns with key Novartis HSE objectives, leads a team of Novartis
global HSE program leaders, and is a trusted business partner with
colleagues in the Americas.
--- Defines and implements the Americas regional HSE strategy,
which is aligned with the Novartis global HSE strategy and aligns
with functions and external partners to drive results.
--- Translates HSE strategy into functional objectives and
activities, and evaluates progress against overall strategy;
identifies and initiates special projects to support the HSE
strategy; ensures stakeholder involvement throughout the projects
and develops consistent, robust processes to support the function.
Brings functional expertise across a broad HSE technical
--- Supports elements of Global HSE (through regionally based
Global Program Leaders) to deliver strategy with excellence. Serves
as single point escalation (proactive and reactive) for regional
HSE matters impacting NGOs, government entities and other
institutions. Oversees regional HSE governance to ensure that
systems are in place to demonstrate and verify compliance with all
pertinent HSE regulations, permits, statutes, local ordinances
and/or other externally driven requirements.

and LatCan REFS Leadership Teams.
--- Constantly eager to improve HSE performance and standards
proactively. Steers the beliefs, perceptions and values that
associates share about HSE in the workplace to create a positive
mindset and proactive HSE behaviors. Eager to enhance partnerships

Flexible switching from in-depth expertise work to general HSE
matters, depending on business needs. Agility to adapt to changing
business needs, multiple stakeholders and to flex from global
program development to site-level implementation support.
--- Develops regional HSE strategy, in alignment with global HSE
strategy, with full stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
Ensures HSE Governance Processes are fully planned and have
appropriate executive support. Partners with key alliance partners
to ensure integrated planning for HSE service delivery is seamless

--- Bachelor's degree required.
--- Fluency in English required both oral and written communication
--- 15+ years of related experience, from multinational
organizations, with deep knowledge and work experience in HSE as
above job description. Track record in Operational effectiveness &
innovation working with diverse teams and managing remote business
--- Experience in international management system standards for HSE
(e.g., ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 31000, ISO 22301, ISO
--- Experience in driving improvement of global HSE services and
adept at balancing resource demands from multiple internal
--- Experience in leading high impact processes and implementation
of improvements across global/regional matrix organizations with
--- Ability to communicate effectively across organizations.
Understanding of the organization and culture of Novartis becoming

--- Discipline in HSE, Engineering or Law or other related
natural/technical field is preferred. Master's degree in
above-mentioned fields is highly desirable.
--- Working knowledge of additional languages desirable (e.g.
Spanish, French, and Portuguese).
--- As required based on business needs, circa 30%.
