emotional learning, identity, and active learning/project-based learning. Experience with professional development for educators, particularly in active learning/project-based learning pedagogies.

Additional Information

This is a three-year term position dependent on grant funding, though it is possible that it could be renewed at the completion of the term.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Drives curriculum development processes and identifies and implements curriculum development goals and priorities; responsible for communicating around these with the DKP Principal Investigator and Project Officer

* Provides oversight of human resource functions, including recruiting, hiring, and managing curriculum team staff (such as student research assistants and curriculum support staff members), and additional consultants, in partnership with the EJSCE Department Administrator and the DKP Project Officer

* Explores and secures partnerships related to the curriculum development components of the project, bringing these opportunities to the DKP PI and the Project Officer

* Oversees development and redesign of curricular resources, verifying and finalizing curriculum content

* Develops processes and tracking systems for curriculum development work-flows, providing project coordination and oversight for the curriculum team

* Identifies and develops platforms and systems for curriculum access and dissemination

* Develops content to be delivered to educators in professional development opportunities with staff directing professional development

* Responsible for building out curriculum personnel, funding streams, and infrastructure, in partnership with the DKP Project Officer and, where relevant, the EJSCE Department Administrator

Job Summary

The Democratic Knowledge Project at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics seeks to hire a Director of Curriculum.

The Director of Curriculum is a new, grant-funded position that will be situated within the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics (EJSCE), which is led by Professor Danielle Allen. The Center has a core strategic initiative, the Innovation in Ethics and Civics Education initiative. This initiative is focused on cultivating ethics and civic engagement on the Harvard campus and on supporting civic and ethics education in the K-16 space. With regard to the latter goal, the Center houses a research and action lab, the Democratic Knowledge Project (DKP), for which the Principal Investigator is Danielle Allen. The Director of Curriculum position will have ownership of the curriculum components of this work. This role will report, administratively, to the DKP's Project Officer, with curricular content oversight from the PI, Dr. Allen, and will work in close coordination with other members of the DKP team, including staff directing professional development and

partnerships/engagement, as well as educator partners, and members of the curriculum team, including student research assistants. This is a three-year term position dependent on grant funding, though it is possible that it could be renewed at the completion of the term.

The Director of Curriculum will be responsible for developing and executing on the substantive vision for DKP curricula, working in close partnership with Dr. Allen on that vision. The position will lead execution of civic curriculum development and redesign, in partnership with DKP staff, educator partners in MA school districts, design-based implementation research team members, partners at Project Zero (HGSE), curriculum team staff members and student research assistants with expertise in political science and philosophy, government and history. The position will work closely with the DKP Project Officer and Senior Manager for Partnerships and Engagement on external partnerships, including sponsors, external advisory committee members, curriculum consultants and partners like iCivics and Amplify, including on exploring and potentially pursuing curricula/curricula resource development nationally and in states beyond MA.

This role will develop and maintain documentation of substantive goals for each curriculum development project, create and manage processes and timelines for curriculum development and redesign, including implementing and tracking project management tools to support efficiencies and deliverables. Tasks will include assigning and tracking tasks related to the curriculum development and redesign processes; organizing meetings; managing curriculum team personnel; facilitating communications across project team members and with project partners at external organizations with regards to curricula components of the initiative's work. This position will serve as an expert on state education standards relevant to civic education, keeping the DKP informed of changing standards and related policy and will ensure that curricula resources align with relevant standards (i.e. history, social studies, English Language Arts). The position will be responsible for verifying and finalizing

curriculum development resources with respect to specialization.

The position will work on identifying platforms for digital curriculum access/dissemination and ensuring that curricula meet the functional needs of the selected platform(s). This position will meet regularly with team members and partners creating curricula and curricula resources and document curriculum redesign processes and decision making, including making recommendations for process improvements.
