Vice President, US Sales, Severe Genetic Disease Join bluebird bio’s enthusiastic team to make a profound impact for persons living with rare genetic disease. Make your mark by designing, building, and leading our national sales organization to ensure physicians have the information they need to make and advise informed decisions about our gene therapies. Design and execute the go-to-market field-engagement strategy and business management plan to achieve operational goals in a manner consistent with bluebird values. Play a critical leadership role on the US management team as you scale up regional business teams and relevant operating structures. About the role:

Design a sales strategy that is aligned to marketing strategy and fit for the purpose of disseminating knowledge to relevant physicians so that informed decisions may be made and advised regarding our gene therapy offerings

Build and lead a field sales organization that is designed to execute a critical component of an integrated cross-functional go-to-market plan. Ensure team activities are consistent with bluebird bio values and aligned with our noble purpose to Recode for Life

Establish success criteria and deliver results through leadership, collaboration, and extreme accountability

Manage a training function to ensure our field organization is knowledgeable, skilled, and proficient to execute the plan in a manner consistent with bluebird standards

Collaborate with cross functional leaders to design and execute processes, systems, and infrastructure required to manage the field organization and ensure we are meeting customer needs in a compliant manner

Curate and maintain working relationships with opinion leaders and other relevant external stakeholders

Manage budgets, resources, performance assessments, and other key business management tasks

30%-50% US travel anticipated

About you:

BS/MS and 12+ years’ experience in the biopharma industry demonstrating broad commercial experience and deep expertise in sales leadership

Experienced in building, scaling, managing, and inspiring field teams

Deeply experienced problem solver, ideally in rare disease go-to-market models, and motivated to bring meaningful change to patients.

Demonstrated leadership in a fast-paced, matrixed, and complex environment.

Demonstrated ability to focus on, and enable, team success

Conversant in medical science with ability to master disease and product knowledge

Demonstrated ability to adapt to change, lead through ambiguity, thrive in white space, and flourish in a high energy, dynamic environment

Experience in rare diseases preferred, experience in hematology a plus

Experience with complex institutional accounts and integrated delivery systems preferred

Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment where results are achieved through influence, cooperation, and the incorporation of multiple points of view

Independently motivated, detail oriented and good problem-solving ability

Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to embrace change and multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment

Excellent communications skills and ability to influence across multiple functions
