Job Description:

Senior Director, Technical Leadership Development

Job Description

The life sciences are in the midst of a data revolution. Cheap and accurate genome sequencing is a reality, high-resolution imaging is becoming routine, and clinical data is increasingly stored in machine-readable formats. These breakthroughs have brought us to the threshold of a new era in biomedicine, one where the data sciences hold the potential to propel our understanding and treatment of human disease.

The Broad Institute's Data Sciences Platform sits at the center of this transformation. We are a rapidly growing cross-functional team of product managers, software engineers and data scientists committed to agile development practices. We work directly with consumers in health communities, researchers using our software tools to make scientific breakthroughs, and partnering organizations developing and integrating new technologies into our platform.

Our team is charged with building a suite of sophisticated software products to serve both the Institute and the world. We play a pivotal role in flagship scientific efforts such as the All of Us Cohort Program and the Human Cell Atlas, and we collaborate with world-leading technology corporations, philanthropic organizations, and pharmaceutical companies. As the leading organization at the intersection of the life sciences and data sciences, these applications are used by thousands of researchers across the globe, processing petabytes of data, and regularly consuming millions of core-hours in a week.

We are seeking a senior coach, advisor and partnership manager who will help our leadership team get to the next level of excellence by driving leadership development, improving collaborative processes, and driving successful partnerships both inside and outside of Broad. This new role will focus on two key drivers for our success: talent and partnerships. For talent, it will allow us to acquire new talent from the tech industry, expand our investment in leadership development, and improve the effectiveness of our collaborative practices. Leadership development will be achieved through a multi-pronged approach focusing on both individuals and teams, and will include coaching, mentoring, advising, process consulting, and training. Target development areas include communication, strategy, conflict management, coaching, and performance management. For partnership, this new role will focus on expanding on the number and type of partnerships we have, take a leading role in representing

Broad and DSP in these partnerships, and improve existing partnerships by helping shape their strategy and collaborations.

No medical, genomics, or scientific background is required, just a desire to be part of a mission led organization, an enthusiasm to transform the world of medicine, and the ability to lead, coach, mentor and partner. Come be part of an incredible mission to help us chart this new course in biomedical research.

Responsibilities

DSP Leadership

* Coach and advise leaders throughout the organization to improve effectiveness, increase self-awareness, reduce stress, and align individual goals and the organization's mission.

Improve teaming by working with the DSP leadership team to improve teaming effectiveness, clarity of roles, productivity, and collaborative partnership. Integrate and align individual coaching with leadership team coaching.

* Serve as a thought partner to DSP leaders, broadening perspectives, sharing best practices and relevant experiences, and exploring and proposing new options for action and change. Improve decisions-making of leaders and teams to identify and find the best balance between speed, excellence, development, strategy and risk. Work with individuals and teams to improve strategic thinking and strategy development.

DSP Organization and Talent Acquisition

* Improve organizational effectiveness of leadership team by clarifying roles, understanding leadership gaps, identifying and contributing to resolve key conflicts, improving processes, increasing accountability, and facilitating change management. Areas for improvement within leadership include planning, resource allocation, problem solving, conflict resolution, strategizing, decision-making, execution, tracking, and after action reviews.

* Contribute to recruiting and hiring through candidate referrals, increasing the credibility of the organization, assessing talent, and helping to close qualified candidates. Work with leaders to understand talent needs, identify leadership gaps and opportunities, and move guide existing talent to more impactful and productive roles. Source and meet with candidates to understand interests and ambitions, and propose alignment with DSP needs and opportunities. Contribute to improving interviewing and hiring practices to make them more streamlined with heightened awareness to bias and diversity.

Partnerships

* Serve as a key executive in partnerships and projects, representing the interests of DSP generally and different functions in different situations as circumstances warrant. Contribute to the improvement of DSP partnering by building relationships, establishing new partnerships, and participating in existing partnerships with outside collaborators and industry partners.
