Position Description: The Associate Director of Talent & Culture is responsible for working with leadership to manage all aspects of the Talent & Culture function from talent acquisition, on-boarding and performance management to talent development, organizational effectiveness and total rewards (compensation, benefits, etc.). The position supports the company strategy to hire and retain the best talent and to grow the HR capability as the company grows. He/she reports to the Chief Financial Officer. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Talent acquisition: Manages the talent acquisition process including partnering with managers on developing accurate job descriptions, sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, coordinating next steps and assessing final candidates. In addition, trains all employees on the Oncorus recruiting process and interview skills to ensure consistency and effectiveness. Supports company growth by conducting market-based research on effective sourcing techniques. Hiring andOn-boarding: Leads the HR-related new hire on-boarding effort for new employees and supports Hiring Managers in developing their overall orientation plans. Generates offer, communicates with employee prior to start date and provides any necessary support to properly prepare new hire. Conducts new hire orientation for new hires including company overview, organizational structure, company policies, benefit offerings and important practices. Responsible for ensuring that all new hires have received and completed all necessary paperwork for compliance, payroll and benefits. Performance management: Manages performance evaluation program, including annual and mid-year reviews by communicating the process and timing to employees and managers, providing necessary support and training to all employees, and continuously enhancing the training and tools to ensure that the program is effective. Provides day to day performance management guidance to managers (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions, etc.). Employee relations: Supports and coaches managers with employee-related issues, conflicts or concerns and provides support to employees who have questions or concerns related to Company policies or practices. Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to employment, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Gets appropriate legal support, when necessary. Talent development: Works with team leaders to identify and develop growth opportunities and plans for strong performers, including a combination of training, coaching, stretch assignments and self learning. Coaches employees and managers on developing their skills and growing their careers, in current and/or future roles. Leverages career ladders across organization, so career growth is perceived as a tangible opportunity and benefit of working at Oncorus. Compensation: Supports analysis of company-wide compensation, obtains any necessary market data and ensures compensation structure is aligned with organization to support growth, to maintain fairness and equity and to ensure that Oncorus is paying at the necessary level to hire and retain strong talent. Works with leadership to determine the appropriate starting salaries for new hires. Benefits: Works with leadership on continuously assessing benefit offerings to ensure that it’s competitive to support Oncorus’ recruiting and retention goals as well as fiscally responsible. Acts as primary contact with benefits broker, carriers and payroll vendor to ensure that benefit plans are being administered effectively and employees are receiving the best possible service and resolves issues, when necessary. Administers all benefits programs by enrolling employees, terminating or changing coverage, managing open enrollments, conducting ongoing audits to ensure coverage and deductions are aligned and working with internal and external parties to address any problems. Provides ongoing communication regarding benefit programs through various venues including the newsletter, e-mail communication and company update meetings, as appropriate. Organizational Effectiveness: Supports leadership with organizational change initiatives that impact culture and morale, including office moves, company growth, leadership change, etc. Provides advice on strategies for engaging employees in organizational change in a positive way, including effective communication, recognition and celebration of culture throughout the employment cycle, visibility of Oncorus’ culture, mission, vision and values, etc. Employee practices and procedures: Develops, recommends, and implements employee policies and procedures. Prepares and maintains employee handbook and provides clarification to employees with questions. Anticipates any necessary changes or additions to documented policies and proactively makes recommendations, based on federal and state legal changes. Risk Management/Compliance: Maintains and expands knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed federal and state laws/regulations affecting human resources management. Identifies trends that could impact organizational objectives and/or operational resources. Interprets appropriate laws and/or work with attorneys, when necessary, to provide necessary advice to management and employees. Records and Reporting: Establishes and maintains department records and reports. Generates and maintains employee reports, as needed. Maintains company organization charts. Required Education and Experience B.S. Business, Management, HR or other related field 5-8 years HR experience Experience in biotech as well as small business and/or start-up environment strongly preferred Knowledge and Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills High level of comfort in dealing with employees and managers on a wide variety of issues, sometimes sensitive Ability to work with confidential information in a professional way Effective team player – puts personal agenda aside and focuses on what’s best for the team Demonstrates flexibility - willing to work on both strategic and tactical work, depending on the business needs at the time Strong organizational and prioritization skills Analytical and detail focused Effectiveness in a dynamic, fast-paced and ever-changing environment Ability to adapt to frequent change and thrive in a dynamic and entrepreneurial early-stage environment Strong communication and organization skills, good working knowledge of MS Office, data plotting and graphing software. Must be able to communicate results effectively.
