Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Knowledge of information technology applications, processes,
software, and equipment
Advanced knowledge of ETL (Extraction, Transformation, and
Loading), reporting and database technologies
Advanced communication, technical, and project management
skills
Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and
the ability to act as a trusted advisor
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Information
Technology, Computer Science, or other related discipline
preferred
7+ years of solid experience with designing, implementing,
supporting, and scaling up database environments.
Experience with a variety of database platforms such as SQL Server,
PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MySQL.
Experience working with database services offered by cloud vendors
(Azure and AWS) in PaaS configuration including designing,
provisioning, sizing, and implementation.
Proficiency with complex SQL
Strong experience in optimizing and tuning databases
Experience with large, high volume, mission-critical
environments
Experience with agile scrum and Kanban methodologies. What you will

Additional Information:This position is based in Boston, but the
work may be done fully or primarily remote. Any remote work must be
performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business
(CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA).

We are expanding our team. We are looking for a passionate Database
Developer with diverse experience in database development and
administration. The position requires you to be a self-starter and
work in a small, focused team that will be responsible for
architecting, designing, building, scaling, and supporting RDBMS
platforms in on-prem and cloud environments. You will work
collaboratively with Data Architecture, DevOps, Infrastructure, and
Engineering teams to deliver solutions that support our
mission.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
Apply depth of knowledge and experience to enable buildout of
secure database environments for our cutting-edge research
endeavors.
Bring both relational and non-relational skills to help us design,
build and maintain our data stores on-premises and in the cloud
(AWS/Azure)
Develop databases (schema, structures, views, stored procs)
Manage our AWS RDS, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server and PostgreSQL
databases
Conquer the day-to-day operational aspects of our systems:
Performance monitoring/tuning
HA/DR strategies
Backup strategies
Query tuning
Cloud instance/storage design, provisioning, and performance
monitoring (Database PaaS)
On-prem to cloud migrations
Ensure the continuous availability of our mission critical
systems.
Automate routine tasks with scripts and open source tools.
