Job DescriptionAbout Shy Bird:Shy Bird is Kendall Square's favorite all day café, rotisserie, and bar... and soon adding a second location in South Boston! Our breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus consist of craveable, affordable food that celebrates the familiar while conveying genuine culinary ambition and passion. This all culminates under a culture of ambition we call ‘All in, All Day'.Position Overview and Expectations:We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic kitchen leader with a focus on consistent execution and results for our growing restaurant group. Shy Bird's Executive Chef will lead and drive all daily kitchen operations at the restaurant. The expectations of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Cost of goods oversight, ordering, inventory and waste management aligned with food cost goals
  • Food safety expertise and practice
  • Standardizing back of the house operating procedure for consistent prep production and menu execution
  • Menu development and recipe engineering, using culinary systems and project management tools to document, process and collaborate
  • Work with team to standardize and maintain recipes for all items
  • Maintain order guides and order accurately and efficiently
  • Team management, hiring and training
  • Conflict resolution and team motivation
  • Scheduling and labor budgetingExperience and Skills:
    • You have at least three years in a kitchen management position in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
    • You have managed a team of 10+ people.
    • You are Food Safety Manager Certified.
    • You have the proven ability to lead, motivate, and build a cohesive kitchen team.
    • You have experience creating and implementing systems that clarify expectations and increase consistency.
    • You collaborate with other restaurant managers to maintain a welcoming, fun work environment for both front and back of house team members.
    • You obsess about the customer experience, and speak up when the food isn't up to your standards.
    • You have a bias for action, correcting mistakes and finding creative solutions.
    • You are fair and polite, seeking the good in others and assuming positive intent.
    • You are passionate about making and serving high-quality, consistent, delicious food.Preferred experience and skills:
      • Management within a multi-unit restaurant group
      • Quick service or fast-casual venue
      • Success in implementing strong systems pertaining to both product and peopleCompensation:
        • $85,000/year base salary
        • $5,000 signing bonus
        • Bonus plan based on prime cost management
