Job Description:

healthcare. In addition, this role focuses on performing the
following Ultrasound duties: Utilizes Ultrasound Technology to
provide images of internal body structures . A clinical
technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained
through a combination of vocational education, training, and
experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care
and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role
requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained
through work experience and requiring vocational or technical
education . Works under moderate supervision, works through
problems of a routine nature, but may at times require
interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and
communicates information that requires some explanation or
interpretation. -

Performs high quality diagnostic ultrasound exams and special
diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the direction of the
physician and/or radiologist involving the use of high frequency
sound waves to investigate the internal aspects of the human body.
Works cooperatively within department and other services to create
a system of quality health care. -

Associates degree from a two - year college-based ultrasound
program . -
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) within
one year of data of hire . -
One (1) year of experience as an ultrasound technologist. -

Two (2) years of work experience as an ultrasound technologist .

Registered in either GYN, abdominal (small parts) ultrasound, or
breast sonography. -

Sets up and operates equipment, manipulating transducers and
adjusting console dials to obtain a clear recording of specified
sections of the body . -
Performs ultrasound examinations in all modalities (B-scan,
Doppler, M-mode, real time). -
Obtains all clinical information available through charts, films,
lab tests, etc. Informs clinics, physicians and floors of
interpretation for exams and provides results on request. -
Assists radiologists in interpretation by describing anatomy,
anatomical locations and acoustic characteristics of each film.

Compares previous ultrasound to current exam, writes up case and
findings on technologist sheets, compiles everything together and
gives to the radiologist to be dictated. -
Informs supervisor of equipment problems and safety issues. -
Participates in department quality improvement/assurance . Teaches
residents, students, medical staff and visitors the science,
capabilities, and proper use of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool .
Maintains sterilization of equipment using appropriate cleaning
procedures involved with specialized equipment. -

Pushing, pulling & moving equipment as needed. -
Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate
transducers, ultrasound equipment & computer keyboard. -
Hearing and visual sufficient to perform examinations, observe
patients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment and hospital
alarms. -
Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, patients' families,
and other personnel throughout the hospital. -

An in - depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology is also required
so the technologist can evaluate laboratory data, past medical
history and pertinent symptoms to tailor the ultrasound examination
to each patient individually in a safe, accurate and timely manner.

Proficient in ultrasounds & procedures requiring ultrasound
guidance. -
Ability to w ork independently to perform exams and will seek out
assistance from others and supervisor as necessary. - -
Ability to cooperate with co-w orkers and management to ensure an
atmosphere that is conductive to high quality patient's care. -
