The early Transformational and Translational Immunology Discovery (TID) in Cambridge, Boston and Worcester is focused on identifying new targets for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases through computational analysis of human disease tissue derived datasets, and through validating targets using humanized experimental approaches. We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual in in the field of gastroenterology and translational science that drives the discovery and prioritization of new and improved targets from exploration to LG with Early Immunology Discovery Research. This position requires passion, attention to detail, prior hands-on experience, and teamwork. Responsibilities Primary responsibility is scientific excellence in the space of gastroenterology. This individual will lead a team in support of drug discovery in the gastroenterology space on the basis of molecular profiling working together with the Genome Research Center and the Systems Immunology group at CRC. He/she will be applying multi-omics strategies from the bench to target ID and prioritization. He/she will drive strategy to achieve scientific goals or multiple candidate-directed programs. The individual will be a member of the therapeutic/functional area leadership team which is primarily responsible for portfolio advancement. The individual will ensure scientific excellence and the use of best practices across teams. Along with Ex. Director and VP, shares responsibility for delivery of clinical candidates / technologies that facilitate delivery of clinical candidates. Identifies project targets and/or innovative technologies and prioritizes goals and milestones within the context of overall strategy, resource availability, competitive dynamics, and functional goals. Department leadership responsibilities will include coordinating resources across programs, identifying and filling gaps in technology and/or capacity, sourcing and overseeing external resources, and identifying and applying new technologies. Manages several project leaders and approximately 5-10 scientists, including PhDs and Research Associates. When possible, is given the opportunity to autonomously lead a small segment of the business under indirect guidance of a Ex. Director. The individual will line-manage leaders and their teams and foster scientific and professional development of staff. Accomplishes long and short-term project goals in collaboration with director, group leaders, and project team members. Exemplifies advanced knowledge level, perception, and intuition across a broad range of scientific disciplines. Prioritizes scientific goals, reviews data produced by team members, educates and coaches. Manages a group of approximately 5-10 scientists which includes PhDs and Research Associates. Directs one or more multidisciplinary projects. Expertise in field is sought within company. Positions AbbVie as a market leader and oversees the product portfolio valued by cross-functional customers. Continually defines, pioneers, and implements breakthrough solutions and technology that the industry generally accepts and utilizes. Leads global industry with the international reputation as expert and key opinion leader in the gastroenterology space. Participates on panel discussions at international meetings and on the standards committee for industry consortium/trade groups. External/International recognition as a scientist in the field of gastroenterology and translational Immunology with recognized academic accomplishments. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education-- -with extensive (typically16 years) of related work; Master's Degree or equivalent education in-- - or equivalent education with extensive (typically 14 years) of related work; PhD with typically 8-10 years of related work experience. 5+ years industry / academic experience with proven ability to innovate in the field of gastroenterology 5+ years of proven leadership skills (academic or industry); proven ability to interact well with diverse groups across functions and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators. Ability to advise discipline experts and leaders across AbbVie on how to manage their particular risks. Own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations. Interpersonal skills capable of negotiating and reconciling interdisciplinary differences, optimizing overall Abbvie goals. External/International recognition as a scientist in the field of gastroenterology with recognized academic accomplishments.
