Job Description:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Performs all aspects of diagnostic nuclear medicine. a. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals. b. Maintains receipt, dispensing, and disposal records for radiopharmaceuticals used. c. Reviews medical record or takes patient history (orally) to determine indication for ordered exams and need for procedure. Refers to supervisor or physician, if in doubt. d. Performs patient study according to department protocol, with appropriate modifications based on patient history. e. Evaluates films or data produced, for completeness and accuracy. Acquires additional images or data as needed. f. Performs radiation surveys and measurements; maintains records, necessary for compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission license requirements. g. Performs quality control procedures and maintains records for all major equipment, according to standard procedure and JCAHO requirements. Reports deficiencies to supervisor. h. Wears all required radiation monitoring devices, uses all required protective shielding, and complies with all NRC and department radiation safety procedures. i. Provides on-call coverage on a rotating basis. 2. Interacts professionally and courteously with patients, co-workers, and medical staff. Assists in clinical training of student technologists from affiliated program and hospital radiology residents. 3. Utilizes time productively and appropriately with respect to patient flow, restocking supplies, cleaning equipment, and assisting with clerical duties to increase department efficiency. a. Ensures patient wait time is minimized. b. Spends more than 90% of time worked on productive tasks without supervisory prompting. 4. Follows Universal Precaution guidelines with each patient. a. Attends yearly "Blood-borne Pathogens/OSHA" inservice. b. Practices aseptic technique. 5. Pursues continuing education by attending department and hospital-wide programs, regional seminars, and/or college courses. a. Maintains annual CPR certification. b. Meets ARRT/NMTCB standards. c. Meets Massachusetts State licensing standards. 6. Performs various other similar or related duties as required and/or directed by supervisor. a. Performs any task for which the employee is competent.
