- To strengthen our Rare Disease Global Medical Affairs team, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Medical Communications Lead -The Medical Communications Lead is a member of the Medical Rare disease organization (RDO); the role reports to the Head of Scientific Medical Communications and Access. This candidate is expected to understand the need and design of strategic medical scientific communications planning, to have worked at a global level, and to have experience in the successful launch and post-launch of rare disease medicines. - -The Medical Communications Lead is a key member of the Global Medical Indication Team (GMIT), sub team of the Global Rare Program Team (GRPT), a contributor to the overall strategy and will work in close contact with the GMIT and Global Medical Leads for the specific disease. This individual will have a critical role in supporting the needs of wave one launch markets such as the US. -You like to work in an environment where you can: -

  • Lead and be accountable for innovative, competitive and impactful medical communications planning and execution over the life cycle for our assets in rare disease for assigned indication(s) -
  • Support the design and delivery of a robust, end to end medical communications plan ensuring alignment with the Medical strategy and the cross functional teams within UCB (clinical development, early research, medical, patient engagement, commercial and communications) -The deliverables include: -Scientific Medical Communication Plan: Scientific Communication Starting in clinical development phase we work with the GMIL and GML and the Indication Global Medical Communications Lead and the Medical RDO to contribute to the foundational scientific communication platform (SCP) and strategic communication plan;
    • Contributes to the interpretation and communication of scientific evidence on product, product aspirations, and disease landscape to ensure scientific consistency; provides roadmap of what is available in the literature and own data and metrics to measure impact as it relates to the Global Scientific Communication Plan and Scientific Communication Platform, Lexicon and other materials. - -End to End Content and Education: In close alignment with the GMIL and GRPT Core Scientific Content - Lexicon, Communication Objectives, Scientific Platform, Integrated Communication Plan and Collateral materials to support internal and external needs, outreach and education. Includes: development of scientific slide decks, field medical materials for MSLs, training content, FAQs, Symposia, Stand-alone medical education and Congress materials in collaboration with GMIT, Medical Communication, Publications;
      • Sets global standards and eliminates duplicative efforts by generating a central repository of scientific content / resources for assigned geographic medical colleagues to leverage and adapt and incorporate necessary and compliant metrics to measure impact. -Congress Strategy, Communication and Insights: -In alignment with the GMIL and the Medical strategy for the specific indication deliver the -delivery of medical strategies at designated congresses (e.g., prepare MSLs, medical directors, account managers for medical booths and symposia, collect scientific insights and generate post-meeting reports);
        • Offers a platform for interactions and partnership with the external medical community; raises awareness of our pipelines, recruitment and early access; generates insights and partnerships with external medical community and metrics to measure impact. -Critical Reviews: -Medical Review--Provide medical guidance, review and approval of medical and commercial materials for products in alignment with the GMIL and in support of required patient engagement material reviews.
          • Timely review and approval of commercial materials ensuring scientific rigor, correct, fair and balanced claims that represent UCB integrity and reputation -You will contribute by: -
            • Participating in Medical sub team meetings under the leadership of GMIL to contribute to the development Scientific Communication Strategy and consequently ensure alignment of an integrated communications plan with the overall Medical strategy and communication objectives front of mind
            • Liaising -with team to ensure scientific communication needs and plans are included in a comprehensive strategy and plan, all in -In alignment with the Medical Indication strategy for assigned geography
            • Creating -and maintaining -a high degree of scientific expertise in therapeutic area/product publications
            • Sourcing -and managing -appropriate external resources for generation of communication materials
            • Managing -the medical communication budget allocated to the product or therapeutic area -
            • Providing -regular updates on communication activities
            • Coordinating -with Medical Information to ensure master documents, material and bibliographies are updated and maintained
            • Reporting metrics on key objectives to Global Head of Scientific Communications and Managed Access
            • Working as an active member of the capability building community of Scientific Communication Strategy Leads and Publication Leads contributing to the continuous strengthening of this capability in UCB -Interested? For this position, you'll need the following education, experience and skills: -Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:
              • PharmD or PhD in a biological science or related field or MD
              • 8+ years of related experience at pharmaceutical company or medical communications agency, with specific experience in strategic publications, preference for rare disease experience
              • Successful track record of implementing -global medical communication and congress programs, including omnichannel communication -
              • Ability to contribute to global medical plans and develop global medical communication and congress strategy
              • Knowledge and understanding of the pharmaceutical commercialization process
              • Excellent command of written and spoken English (other languages an asset)
              • Ability to collaboratively work in a matrix organization, controlling and continuously adapting the project plan with the appropriate level of details to achieve project objectives
              • Ability to ensure -excellence in partnership from different aspects: identification, governance, operational, strategic and people to enable the execution of the UCB Strategy
              • Ability to gather and interpret information -using -quantitative and qualitative methods to obtain relevant information about stakeholders' needs, motivations and behaviors to contribute to the generation of insights -
              • identifying -and managing -internal and/or external resources appropriately, including consultants and vendors
              • Contributing -to global medical plans and development of medical communication and congress strategy
              • Engaging -with the internal stakeholders (medical, clinical development, research, access, advocacy, commercial etc) on a global to local reach
              • Understanding -what needs patients, caregivers, payors and physicians want to see, based on assimilation, analysis and interpretation of relevant insights, that can be addressed by the solutions UCB is developing or marketing -
              • Articulating -the value of our solutions, based on the integration of various sources of data, including UCB sponsored interventional and non-interventional clinical studies, external databases and literature
              • Ensuring -scientific integrity of the interpretation and dissemination of the data through an omnichannel approach -Preferred Qualifications:
                • Experience in Rare Diseases is preferred, launch experience desired
                • Skilled at promoting a culture of sharing and collaboration
                • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively to ensure the highest healthcare principles and standards are upheld -while creating agile frameworks and programs to deliver results that maximize patient value
                • Adoption of a rigorous and analytical approach to problem solving : Foresee problems and take effective measures to avoid them or mitigate their impact, escalate them when needed - Recognize and prioritize issues
                • Ability to understand detailed (both qualitatively and quantitatively) and comparative (e.g., from multiple sources or formats) data
                • Maintains extensive knowledge of the relevant therapeutic areas, diseases, stakeholders, patient journeys and unmet needs, clinical practice, research and development, regulatory, market access environment, and the competitive landscape; applies this knowledge to develop differentiated patient solutions.
