We are seeking a highly motivated individual to be part of the Vertex Technology Engineering, and Data team to define and lead delivery of software and data solutions enabling and accelerating our rapidly expanding cell and genetic therapy efforts. This role sits within the global Scientific Computing team as a member of the Research Engagement team focused on Biology and based in Boston. We are looking for an Associate Director of Research System- Cell and Genetic Therapies. The ideal candidate will have deep domain Biology/Genetics knowledge and extensive experience in working with scientists to identify key process and technology gaps. The successful candidate will be highly communicative, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is eager to identify bold and innovative ways of helping scientists and scientific partners solve key data and technology challenges. Key responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including scientific leadership and lab scientists, across the new Cell and Genetic Therapies research site, and ensure tight alignment of solutions with business strategy
• Develop in-depth understanding of strategic and operational requirements driven by research objectives
• Understand broader needs of cell and genetic therapy scientific teams and interface with internal technology, Architecture, Software and Data Engineering, and PMO teams to deliver high-value business outcomes
• Responsible for understanding and documenting business processes and requirements for applications/systems and data/analytics
• Support Research Engagement Leader in setting strategy and shaping portfolio demand
• Work directly with business partners to refine priorities within a discipline and/or functional area
• Educate business partners on technology/data solutions and potential new ways of working
• Collaborate with business partners to simplify and automate business processes
• Define and refine business value realization measures
• Coach and mentor junior talent within a functional domain
• Making presentations to Senior Scientific and Technology leadership Qualifications/Experience:
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Life Sciences or Computer Sciences
  • 10+ years of experience working in a Biopharma industry
  • 7+ years of Business Relationship Management with in a Scientific Research setting
  • Experience in eliciting requirements and developing use cases for development of technology solutions
  • Ability to lead cross-functional projects
  • Experience in development, testing, and delivery of production-quality software
  • Hands-on experience with Agile software development techniques
  • Fluency with Cloud based technologies
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Experience leading/managing technical teams
