Job Description:

Principal Scientist, Respiratory Sciences Job Description 500+ million people worldwide suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.

We are seeking an innovative scientist to join the Respiratory Sciences group in the exploratory Disease Area X (DAx) department. You'll use your deep respiratory diseases knowledge to devise novel approaches to address the underlining pathobiologies in IPF and COPD, and ultimately develop transformative therapies for these patients.

DAx is a highly dynamic and collaborative drug discovery department that interfaces biology, genetic engineering, gene and cell therapy, genome analysis, and different modalities, with pre-clinical development and translational medicine.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

- Playing a key role in the identification and development of novel therapies for IPF and COPD patients by contributing intellectually and experimentally at all stages of a project, from inception to early clinical development.

- Proposing and exploring new research ideas and/or new technologies. Conducting early research to identify and validate targets or pathways of relevance in IPF and or COPD.

- Proposing and developing complex assays that recapitulate the disease pathophysiology to drive decision-making activities and bring forward development candidates for ground-breaking therapies in respiratory disease

- Self-motivation, the ability to work independently, and a passion for working in an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment.

- A proven track record in respiratory diseases (IPF, COPD) research with high-impact peer-reviewed publications in the field

- Strong proficiencies in cell biology and complex phenotypic assay development, with hands on experience with a wide range of in-vitro cellular assays such as high-content imaging, cell culture, RT-QPCR, western blotting, ELISAs, and reporter assays

- Critical problem solver that cultivates generating hypotheses around mechanisms of disease

- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills

Desirable Requirements:

- Experience in respiratory disease research (COPD, IPF) in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology research setting.
