Here, you will be a vital contributor to our inspiring, bold mission. As a Preclinical Imaging Lab Lead, you will be empowered to serve on project teams for discovery to development programs. OBJECTIVES Establishes and manages a state-of-the-art in vivo rodent imaging facility to support drug discovery and development across all therapeutic areas at Takeda. Works collaboratively with Imaging Therapeutic Area Liaisons, preclinical project teams and related functions to design and conduct rodent imaging studies and deliver results back to the teams. Leads novel imaging methods transfer to external imaging CROs or academic partners. Provides strategic and technical imaging advice to project teams and preclinical studies where imaging biomarkers enable decision-making to impact the pipeline. ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Establishes and manages a state-of-the-art in vivo rodent imaging facility to support drug discovery and development across all therapeutic areas at Takeda
  • Provides in-depth technical knowledge of advanced preclinical imaging modalities and instrumentation (MRI, PET, SPECT, CT, Ultrasound and/or optical imaging)
  • Designs, implements, interprets, advises and/or consults on preclinical imaging studies
  • Provides imaging expertise and represents PTS-Imaging on preclinical project teams
  • Evaluate and/or develop cutting-edge novel imaging technologies
  • Manages all aspects of the imaging laboratory, including IACUC protocols, biosafety, radiation safety and imaging equipment maintenance.
  • Contribute to PTS-Imaging group maintaining state-of-the-art knowledge of technical and scientific imaging advances and assess these advances for their potential value in drug discovery and development.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable Takeda representative for imaging issues to external imaging experts, imaging biomarker activities and consortia.
  • Contribute to developing external relationships with key academic imaging centers, imaging-related vendors and imaging CROs DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise
    • Requires preclinical, expert-level imaging knowledge and how to apply imaging biomarkers to solve questions in a drug discovery and development environment Leadership
      • This position will be a highly visible preclinical imaging expert within Takeda interacting with bench scientists through VP-level management
      • Will need the ability to accomplish goals through working collaboratively with project teams and management external to the Imaging group Decision-making and Autonomy
        • Will have substantial authority to manage and lead the imaging laboratory portfolio of projects Interaction
          • Will require substantial engagement with biology project teams and related functions (e.g. DMPK, Comparative Medicine, Safety Assessment) and close collaboration with other members of the Imaging group
          • Will require the development of innovative imaging solutions for complex preclinical problems Complexity
            • Will operate in a complex matrixed environment with internal Takeda teams across international geographies and cultures EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
              • Advanced degree (DVM and/or PhD scientist /engineer/ physicist) with pre-clinial imaging expertise
              • Minimum of 5 years' experience in imaging research in drug discovery and development or core academic imaging laboratory
              • Experience in managing a rodent in vivo imaging facility
              • Cross-imaging modality expertise strongly preferred (MRI, PET, SPECT, CT, Ultrasound and/or optical imaging) including basic scientific knowledge of preclinical imaging modalities
              • Possess in-depth therapeutic area knowledge in one or more of Takeda's therapeutic areas preferred, including oncology, gastro-intestinal diseases, neurosciences and rare diseases.
              • Experience managing scientists to conduct imaging experiments
              • Experience in conducting preclinical imaging studies with external partners
              • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including presentational capabilities.
              • Ability to apply innovative imaging technologies in a "fit for purpose" manner in the drug discovery process. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
                • Willingness to travel to both internal and external meetings, including overnight trips. National and international travel is required.
