Join Takeda as an Associate Director, HEPA Patient Access where you will provide operational and strategic leadership to ensure successful implementation and execution of Patient Access programs and initiatives, including holistic access planning and operational strategy and execution of non-trial pre-approval access programs (IPR, NPP)

You will also maintain relationships with various external partners and vendors that support HEPA Patient Access objectives and initiatives. Develop and implement training and communication plans to build awareness and understanding of patient access programs and initiatives to key stakeholders within the organization.

HEPA Patient Access serves as a center of excellence within Takeda's GPD division. We facilitate patient access to Takeda's investigational medicines throughout the drug development process, including non-trial pre-approval access programs including Individual Patient Request (IPR) and Named Patient Programs (NPP). Support capability building both internally and externally to address patient access barriers and establish Takeda as a leader in global healthcare. Embed patient access principles and policies within and across the organization to support our patient-centric culture. As part of the HEPA Patient Access, you will report to the Head of Patient Access, Early Pipeline/IPR.

How you will contribute:

  • Drive the operational strategy and execution of non-trial preapproval access programs such as individual patient requests (IPR) and Named Patient Programs, including development of holistic access plans in collaboration with key stakeholders (e.g. Global Program Teams, Regions/Business Units, and LOCs).
  • Provide expertise and operational guidance to HEPA Patient Access leadership to support the development and implementation of patient access related SOPs, guidance documents, tools and systems.
  • Manage relationships with key external partners and vendors on behalf of HEPA Patient Access, overseeing contracting and onboarding processes in collaboration with key internal stakeholders (e.g. legal, compliance, procurement) and tracking/reporting on achievement of partnership milestones.
  • Provide operational oversight of budget and drug supply forecasting for HEPA Patient Access programs and alignment with other relevant internal stakeholders (e.g. Finance, Supply Chain).
  • Responsible for ensuring accurate tracking, reporting, and metrics of patient access programs, driving process improvements and initiatives, and ensuring compliance with internal SOPs and external laws and regulations.
  • Lead internal awareness, education and training of patient access related programs, policies and SOPs. Represent HEPA Patient Access on internal and external teams to define approaches and methodology related to patient access.
  • Lead or support external collaborations or projects that address patient access barriers, including initiatives related to patient and HCP education and communication.
  • Support the implementation of best practices related to patient access across the organization.
  • Support assigned cross-HEPA initiatives

    Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

    • Minimum Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred (MS/MBA/MPH). Doctoral degree in a health sciences related field desirable (PhD/PharmD/MD).
    • 8+ years relevant professional experience required in a multi-disciplinary, global environment. R&D experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred.
    • 4+ years of relevant project management and leadership experience.
    • 2+ years of line or matrix management experience.
    • Knowledge of global research and development and the interface with other organizations, functions and business units.
    • Experience working within a complex, global organization and demonstrated ability to work across functions and regions without direct authority.
    • Experience working with supply chain, vendors, and external organizations (including corporations, associations, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions) relevant to the patient access and global healthcare.
    • Strong proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and build consensus via input from multiple stakeholders
    • Accountable for decision making related to day-to-day operation of assigned expanded access programs (ie, IPR), including complex decisions regarding expanded access programs and requests, seeking appropriate cross-functional input.
    • Experience in Expanded Access preferred

        This position is currently classified as "hybrid" in accordance with Takeda's Hybrid and Remote Work policy.

        Base Salary Range: $143,500 - $205,000, based on candidate professional experience level. Employees may also be eligible for Short-term and Long-Term Incentive benefits as well. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.

        The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
