Senior Director, Portfolio Decisions ResourcesCambridge, MAThe
Portfolio Decision Resources team, part of Sanofi's R&D
department, is looking for a Business Senior Director to work on a
diverse set of projects. As a leader within this group, you will
gain exposure to all of Sanofi's therapy areas and come to truly
understand the 'nuts and bolts' of the business. You will develop a
deep understanding of core products and a detailed view of their
chances of technical and regulatory success and medical and
commercial impact.Global Portfolio Decision Resources overarching
objective is to ensure a robust valuation and prioritization of the
R&D portfolio and make recommendations as to best optimize
utilization of resources. The team will work with key stakeholders
in the R&D organization and the GBUs to provide support to
leadership decision-making. The team's remit is to:Ensure R&D
asset valuation (including POS calculation, business case) is done
in a rigorous and comparable basis across Sanofi, including the
development of standard tools and an effective review process.
Provide challenge to project teams' assumptions around probability
of success and valuation, viaQuantitative analyses of previous
Sanofi performance and external benchmarks, increase internal
information available, leverage external Open-source information
based on artificial intelligence approaches, identify new sources
of data that can inform R&D quantitative analysesCoordinating
internal review/debate workshops from both R&D and commercial
perspectivesReviewing findings with external experts (where
relevant) and internal senior leadershipUse advanced analytics to
inform and shape decision making by Global Project Teams (GPTs) and
senior leadership (e.g., stage gate analysis to determine optimal
development strategy, scenario analysis, decision trees, etc) and
present these analytics at key Go/No go decisions at the IDCC.
Consolidate analyses into a holistic portfolio view for analysis
(pipeline volume, continuity, value) with data visualization tools.
Make recommendations as to optimize utilization of resources and
facilitate trade-off discussion amongst senior leadersWithin the
R&D Department, you will also be required to contribute to the
conduct of a digital transformation project, concerning the group's
technical and financial data.POSITION OVERVIEW/PRIMARY
RESPONSIBILITIES:Work with PDR team members to conduct valuations
and understand key R&D and commercial assumptions:Attend
meetings with Global Project Teams to review and understand
assumptions including probability of success, pricing, peak year
sales, time to market, market share growth rateDevelop a working
knowledge of the therapeutic area and compare project assumptions
to internal and industry benchmarksEnsure the robustness of each
project variables thanks to an in-depth knowledge of the project
and deep expertise of expert functions involvedHelp the Project
Team in preparing for the IDCC when it comes to the relevant
metricsBuild, maintain and use portfolio analysis tools:Support
development of analytical frameworks and tools for project and
portfolio-level decision-makingIn collaboration with Global Project
Teams, complete project-level commercial and financial models and
ensure models contain the latest project assumptionsStructure and
perform scenarios and simulations to model and value strategic
alternatives and trade-offs (''Stage gates'') with the aim of
maximizing value at a project and portfolio levelDevelopment of
portfolio standards using external data to improve internal data
quality and fill gaps where they existSupport development of
analytical frameworks and tools for project and portfolio-level
decision-making, with a focus on projects dedicated to digital
transformation, implementation of new quantitative metrics and
prediction tools based on cutting-edge modelling and artificial
intelligence tools.Participation in the management of the digital
transformation group projectContribute to project management,
monitoring of activitiesParticipate in project team
meetingsParticipation in the process of integrating technical and
financial data, and in setting up an analytical platform for
R&D dataCollaborate with the PDR and Digital team on the data
flow mapping and data integration processUnderstand the
interdependencies between the different projects of the group,
ensure the coherence of the plans with the vision of the
projectControl the data (technical, commercial, financial)
throughout the transformation, migration, reporting processes, in
order to ensure the quality and consistency of the
dataParticipation in the identification of internal and external
data, contributing to the improvement of technical, commercial and
financial hypothesesExplore internal and external data sources
(commercial, clinical development, etc.)Select data sources and
collaborate in setting up data librariesParticipate in the
implementation of analytical methods, involving artificial
intelligence, machine learning, forecasting------* Key

of a Bachelors degree is requiredAdvanced Degree (PhD in Life
Sciences, MD, Vet, Pharm D) and an MBA would be significant assetsA
minimum of 9 years of professional business experience is
required.A minimum of 5+ years of direct experience in the life
sciences industry preferably in Strategy ConsultingStrong project
management capabilities, helping to ensure team objectives are met
through timelines. Agile project management capabilities are a
plusGood business judgment and high degree of curiosityStrong
analytical skills with a mastery of Excel, and a solid grasp of
corporate finance principlesThe ability to synthesize information
and present key findings in a crisp and concise mannerAdaptability:
comfortable working in a team and with people at all levels and in
