Assistant Director for Undergraduate Engagement and OutreachHarvard Graduate School of Education61826BR Position Description The Assistant Director serves as a strategic thought partner with key stakeholders to develop and implement a strategic engagement and outreach strategy to identify, cultivate, and build pipelines of Harvard College and other institutions' undergraduates to the Teacher and Teacher Leadership master's degree, as well as other master's degree programs at HGSE. In collaboration with others, designs, and implements a strategy to build upon and leverage possibilities with EdSecondary, an existing pipeline of Harvard undergraduates. In collaboration with the Communications and Marketing Office, develops and implements marketing and outreach strategies to reach a broad and diverse audience of prospective students.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: -

Admissions and Recruitment -
Works in close partnership with the HGSE Admissions and Communications and Marketing Office as engagement and outreach activities are informed by and/or impacts those teams.

  • Design and implement TTL's overall recruitment plan, including communications, outreach, long-term cultivation of and engagement with potential teacher candidates -
  • Develop and maintain relationships with faculty and staff at peer institutions (including HBCUs) to facilitate outreach to undergraduates -
  • Help develop early admission partnerships (e.g., for college sophomores at Harvard or at peer institutions) in order to increase STEM and minority student representation
    • Develop and maintain relationships with staff at non-profits that introduce individuals to teaching, e.g., Breakthrough and CityYear -
    • Plan and represent TTL at recruitment and engagement-related events external to Harvard -
    • Identify potential field placements -
    • Develop and maintain relationships with Harvard college representatives (e.g., career services, college advising, STEM department staff and faculty) -
    • Collaborate with Education Studies Secondary to plan and implement Harvard College undergraduate cultivation strategy, events, and opportunities -
      • Supervise current TTL students working as TTL Recruitment Ambassadors to Harvard College -
      • Design, manage and cultivate the program's digital presence, including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and website -
      • In conjunction with the TTL Coordinator and the Marketing and Communications Office as needed, create, design, and order marketing materials including posters, social media graphics, and branded giveaways -
      • Hold 1-1 meetings with prospective applicants -
      • Connect prospective applicants with opportunities to learn more about the program, including coordinating time with current and former Fellows and faculty -
        • Oversee the budget assigned for these activities.
        • Develop partnerships with Boston-metro schools whose vision and values are aligned with the TTL mission to prepare educators to "lead transformative learning experiences that change lives, advance social justice, and help generate the best outcomes for all students." -
        • Collaborate with SILL to maintain active engagement with and tracking of alumni (donors want to know who stays in teaching, etc.) -
        • Respond to Development Office and funder requests for data - With administrative support, oversee: -
          • Logistical planning of cultivate and outreach events -
          • Financial Processing including the payment/hiring of vendors -
          • Communication and social media pushes and updates including websites, the HUB, etc. -
          • Development of digital content and outreach collateral -
            • Collect and manage recruitment data -
            • Maintain up to date listserv of potential applicants that includes recorded points of contact - Basic Qualifications
              • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
              • Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experienceAdditional Qualifications and Skills
                • Experience in higher education desired
                • Previous experience within the education sector strongly preferred
                • Previous experience in undergraduate recruitment and engagement strongly preferred
                • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing and outreach techniques aimed at target audience
                • Exceptional relationship building skills
                • Strong team player
                • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills
                • Ability to work with students, student organizations, colleagues, clients and external organizations

                  • Sitting using near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods of time
                  • Lifting (approximately 20 to 30 pounds), bending, and other physical exertionWorking Conditions HGSE is currently developing dynamic workplace models which will actively support a combination of on-campus and remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business) where business and operational needs allow.                     Our business hours are Monday - Friday, 35 hours a week.
