Description Gritstone bio is a public, next-generation personalized cancer and infectious immunotherapy company. Gritstone brings together distinguished scientific founders, an experienced and diverse management team, a seasoned and successful board of directors and deep financial backing to tackle fundamental challenges at the intersection of cancer genomics, immunology, and immunotherapy design. The company's goal is to identify and deploy neoantigens for novel treatments of cancer and infectious diseases. In addition to neoantigen therapy development, Gritstone is leveraging its unique antigen discovery platform to define targets for shared antigen immunotherapies, which would provide an opportunity to treat even more patients.

Position Summary:

The Director/Senior Director, Alliance Management will oversee and direct the alliance management activities for the organization. The individual will maintain the relationships of our external partners, including but not limited to academic institutions, non-government organizations (NGOs), governments, biotechnology companies, and pharmaceutical companies. In addition to ensuring healthy relationships with these entities, the position will also work closely as part of the project team to ensure there is cross-functional alignment internally and externally. The role will be involved in general business development strategy discussions and will be critical as these business development relationships transition to executed agreements.


  • Manage, develop, and lead the Alliance Management function including growing the Alliance Management team within Gritstone.
  • Oversee external strategic partnerships by leading cross-functional activities to ensure collaboration programs meet defined milestones, with a focus on service quality, resource management, and relationship management.
  • Work with internal stakeholders (legal, corporate, and business development, finance, research, clinical, and executive team) as well as external alliance partners to set the direction and scope for implementation of the partnership agreements.
  • Serve as a central point of contact between functional areas within Gritstone bio bridging across partnership alliances.
  • Facilitate or direct staff at key meetings (e.g., sub-teams, alliance teams), prepare agendas, facilitate discussions, prepare minutes, and follow up on action items.
  • Oversee the governance of the partnership agreement including participating in governance committees and sub team meetings.
  • In coordination with Finance and Corporate and Business Development, ensure key contract milestones, financial and progress reports are generated and submitted on time.
  • Manages the negotiation of amendments with current partners to align with evolving business needs.
  • Grow existing relationships when it aligns with our strategic goals.
  • Maintain close familiarity with operational aspects of the program(s) and produce documents and visual tools to facilitate project tracking (e.g., decision and action logs, planning trackers, Gantt charts/timelines, budgets).Minimum Education & Experience:
    • A Bachelor's degree is required. Masters or PhD in a scientific discipline, or other advanced degree, highly preferred
    • 1 0+ years' experience in a Biotech or Pharmaceutical organization with a experience working in alliance management including with external BioPharma partners
    • Comfort reviewing complex collaboration agreements
    • Working knowledge of overall drug development process and roles for the various functional areas within a biotech/pharmaceutical company
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management skills
    • Excellent analytical skills, with an ability to communicate complex issues
    • Demonstrate ability to translate strategy into action, strong influence, negotiation, and presentation skills
    • Proven track record of good decision making and exercising sound judgment.
    • Results and detail-oriented; self-motivated
    • Proven experience using Project Management software to manage complex project timelines and resources

      Gritstone bio anticipates that the annual base salary for the Director level position could range between $165,000 - $252,000. The anticipated -annual base salary for the Senior Director level position could range between $194,000 - $308,000. -Compensation will depend, in part, on the successful candidate's credentials for the role, including education, qualifications, and type as well as length of experience. Any offered salary is also based on internal equity, internal position salary ranges, and market data. The salary range listed does not include any applicable bonuses or long-term incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. Gritstone is a multistate employer and the salary offered will be market competitive. At Gritstone, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

      Gritstone's benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and paid parental leave. Employees are also eligible to enroll in the 401k plan, which includes a 4% company match with immediate vesting. Employees are eligible to enroll in benefits effective the first day of employment and the competitive Paid Time Off (PTO) begins accruing on the first day as well. The job offer also includes an equity grant and eligibility for annual refresh grants based on performance. Gritstone employees also benefit from an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) and thirteen (13) designated paid holidays as well as two (2) personal days.
