Monitoring and research around relevant planning or policy proposals, critical stakeholder opportunities, and regulatory and policy architecture aligned with the universitys culture, vision and values. Thought leadership and expertise in social impact, governance, peer analysis and best practices, closely following legal, regulatory, and market developments to inform strategic planning and conversations with stakeholders. Advice and partnership relating to the universitys public-facing initiatives and activities, and creation and review of content collateral, presentations, and other public communications. Supporting executive leadership in partnership, advocacy, outreach and response to key stakeholders, community in partnership with colleagues and leaders in public affairs. Partnering with communications colleagues on general and social media inquiries, issues management, and social impact and public advocacy; and serving as a central source of data and support for requests and information. The Senior Managing Director works across university functional areas and networks to coordinate strategy, gather consensus, and ensure alignment of messages, content, data, and other advocacy and communications tools around key projects for the universitys diverse public audiences. S/he will bring a sophisticated communications and engagement approach to develop proactive message and advocacy strategies to build understanding, promote accountability, ensure responsiveness and help steward the universitys relationships in a broad ecosystem of organizations, multilateral teams, and individuals. In partnership with leads for state and local government and community relations as well as communications and community programs, the role will focus on building a connected strategy for stakeholder engagement and relevant partnerships related to key initiatives. Working more broadly with colleagues in Harvard Public Affairs and Communications as well as from the across the university and its schools, this individual will lead a small team and manage across groups to build and operationalize a comprehensive and strategic approach to active engagement among stakeholders and will identify both partners and opportunities in advancing the universitys work in its host communities. The Senior Managing Director will be responsible for briefing and advising senior university leadership on priorities and issues on a proactive and regular basis and will be expected to bring independent innovation and creativity to the role. This role also requires experienced judgement, strategic focus, and the capacity for seeing in both wide and long-term perspectives, the assessment and balancing of stakeholder concerns and dynamics, as well as an understanding of regulatory, reputational, political, and other relevant externalities and their relation to university priorities.
