Job Description:
Evelo Biosciences is seeking a dedicated and talented Director
of Accounting to join our dynamic, high growth organization.We are
seeking an experienced, talented, and dedicated individual who is
interested in joining a high performing finance team; a
collaborator who communicates in an open, clear, complete, timely
and consistent manner who listens effectively and invites response
and discussion.This role will provide an excellent opportunity to
be responsible for the month, quarter and year-end close process,
while playing a key role in purchasing and accounts payable,
contributing greatly to the day-to-day operations of the finance
team. Primary Responsibilities:
- Own the month, quarter and year-end close process to meet
closing deadlines while identifying and implementing process
improvements.
- Support VP, Chief Accounting Officer In providing accounting
operations support to the business, providing excellent customer
services, assist in training and education of internal
customers.
- Work closely with External Reporting/SOX and FP&A function
in various work stream, including but not limited to report
generation, financial analysis, master data hierarchy updates and
administration.
- Actively support quarterly reviews and annual audit with
external auditors.
- Support VP, Chief Accounting Officer in the administration and
continuous improvement of ERP systems, responsible for the quality
control and organization of various queries and reports.
- Responsible for the maintenance of the company's procurement
system. Work with the business to ensure proper and accurate
creation of purchase orders.
- Responsible for internal cash reporting and operational
short-term cash forecast. Responsible for wire and ACH batch
preparation.
- Responsible for reconciliation of monthly corporate credit card
and expense reporting review.
- Support for tax related data compilation, filing and
governmental incentives applications e.g. exercise tax, R&D tax
credit, etc.
- Best practice sharing, coaching team members and leading
projects and managing project deliveries when applicable
- Review, approve and at times prepare journal entries and
account reconciliations for various accounting areas, responsible
for all balance sheet reconciliations.
- Participate in or lead ad-hoc and special projects as
assignedDesired Skills & Qualifications:
- Expertise in the Microsoft Office Suite, high proficiency in
Excel and Powerpoint.
- Hands on experience with ERP systems (NetSuite highly
preferable), SAP, Oracle, etc.
- Self-starter and strong team player, can work independently,
demonstrated record of success in managing and completing projects
timely and accurately.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing,
open-minded, and able to collaborate with people from different
background, demonstrated record of being a good team player
- Strong interpersonal skills, good listener, ability to resolve
conflicts effectively and elevate issues when necessary.
- Adapt to changes in the work environment as company scales;
able to manage competing demands and prioritize deliveries
appropriately.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to
accommodate the demands of a fast-paced, high growth public
company, demonstrated record of delivering result by deadline
- Strong attention to detail, quality of presentation, and data
integrity; desire to continuously learn and grow
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with scaling up a company and process as it grows is
strongly preferredEducation and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA strongly
preferred
- Big 4 public accounting preferred
- CPA is strongly preferred
- Combination of 8+ years of public accounting and industry
experience is preferred
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP
