Job-Specific ResponsibilitiesPosition Summary:The Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI) is a cross-university institute and collaborates with university and external partners around the world to develop the knowledge that will generate better outcomes for the health of the world's population. The Institute is led by Louise Ivers, MD, MPH, DTM&H, Executive Director of the MGH Center for Global Health, and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.Reporting to and working in partnership with the Faculty Director of the Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI), the Executive Director is responsible for the execution of the strategic vision of the Faculty Director and Steering Committee.The Executive Director will be responsible for oversight of all administrative and financial activities, including fundraising, budgeting, space planning, human resources, and communications. The Executive Director will work closely with several key stakeholders including, the Office of the President and the Provost (OPP), the University Development Office (UDO), Harvard Human Resources (HHR), Harvard University IT (HUIT), and the Office of General Counsel (OGC).The Institute is seeking an Executive Director who shares HGHI's commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive and welcoming environment.The Executive Director will:

  • Implement HGHI's vision through the delivery of programs, symposia, and other initiatives to advance the academic, research, and programmatic mission.
  • Directly oversee the day-to-day operations of the Institute including, budget and finance, communications, development, events, human resources, and publications.
  • Ensure ongoing communication and collaboration with the Office of the President and the Provost and other Schools and research centers, ensuring compliance with Harvard policies and procedures.
  • Develop strategy and implement organizational structure to support HGHI's programming initiatives.
  • In partnership with the faculty director, associate faculty director, and development staff, advance fundraising initiatives.
  • Steward Institute funds appropriately and in keeping with donor terms.
  • Link medium and long-term strategies to ongoing activities and resource allocation decisions.
  • Work closely with schools and centers to advance HGHI's initiatives
  • Work closely with affiliate hospitals to ensure grants are managed and monitored in compliance with the University's policies and procedures.
  • Represent the Institute in interactions with grantors, donors, government entities, and other external stakeholders.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of HGHI's Steering Committee.
  • Oversee a team of staff, including, grant-funded positions, graduate students, fellows, and faculty that are based at various Harvard schools.
  • Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion goals Basic Qualifications Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role: Minimum of 10 years professional experience in an academic organization and/or in a position with increasing responsibilities in an organization focused on global health, research, or education. Additional Qualifications and Skills Advanced degree preferred, but not required for those with requisite experience. Demonstrated leadership, supervision, and communications skills, preferably in higher education or global health. The increasing level of responsibility in strategic planning, organizational design, and general management. - Successful track record and proven skills in administration and operations -finance, human resources, strategic planning, organizational communications, academic program management, and program monitoring and evaluations. Demonstrated ability to lead through persuasion; develop, coach, and supervise a diverse staff; and promote collaboration. Must demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Additional Information PLEASE NOTE: This position may start hybrid (some on-campus/some remote work), with the transition to full-on campus in Boston if required by the department.
