Who We AreCogent Biosciences is a biotechnology company developing real solutions to treat genetically driven diseases. With a focus on rational drug discovery and development, we are leveraging validated biology to advance precision therapies designed to address the true underlying drivers of disease and provide real hope for patients. Cogent's lead therapeutic candidate, bezuclastinib (CGT9486), is a precision kinase inhibitor designed to selectively and potently inhibit the KIT D816V mutation. This mutation is responsible for driving a rare and serious condition called Systemic Mastocytosis which can severely impact many different tissues and organs in the body. We are also studying CGT9486 to treat advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), which have a strong dependence on oncogenic KIT signaling.Our TeamRole:The Director of Global Scientific Communications at Cogent Biosciences is a role that is considered critical to our success. Our teams need the most up-to-date information to enable contemporary scientific discourse, with the goal of improving patient outcomes. We believe that scientific communications are central to all we do in terms of disseminating data about our revolutionary science and potential best-in-class therapeutics across all audiences both internally and externally (i.e.: healthcare providers, patient advocates, and patients). This is a combined strategic and operational role that will compliantly align on a data-dissemination strategy and plan across our development programs with multiple internal disciplines, from research through to commercial (when applicable), while developing strong partnerships with external subject matter experts and authors, and in alignment with current good publication practices.What You Will Do:Establish an internal multi-disciplinary Scientific Communications Core Team to ensure representation of key stakeholders across all external audiencesPartner with the Core Team on the development of a scientific communications strategy across programsOperationalize the strategy while maintaining current with the dynamics of changes to company and program milestones that may impact the scientific communications planLead Cogent's scientific congress planning efforts focused on data dissemination, presentation coverage, competitive intelligence, overall congress deliverables, IME/HCP-facing educational activities (i.e., symposia) at a congress or other as determined priorityEmerge as the scientific communications subject matter expert and internal resource for information on Cogent's product portfolio across therapeutic areasGuide and lead the organization in the establishment and management of analysis review committees with respective internal and external thought leadersPartner with a multi-disciplinary team on the development and/or upkeep of the scientific platform across programsLead by example through the development of fair and balanced communications (e.g., provide writing and editorial support for publications) and in compliance with local, regional, and/or company guidelines and procedures leveraging expertise in good publication practices and other guidance related to scientific data communication.Create and maintain relevant publication standard operating procedures, guidelines, and/or work instructionsCreate and maintain and/or contribute to internal and external facing materials (e.g., slide decks, scientific congress summaries, advisory boards).Be forward-thinking in the planning of organizational infrastructure and operational spend for the scientific communications organization, in a measured way, based on major company and program milestones planned and achievedBe a financial steward by maintaining a budget to plan and partnering closely with Cogent's finance team to ensure line-of-sight on planned and unplanned initiativesProvide scientific communications expertise, guidance, and training to internal colleagues including, but not limited to, the Medical Affairs team (e.g., MSLs, and the like) and in partnership with medical directors (as appropriate)Conduct ad-hoc literature searches and develop regular updates and annotated summaries of key articles for internal programs and teams.Constantly innovate (continuous improvement initiatives) on Cogent's data dissemination efforts through identification, evaluation, and pull-through of tools (e.g., sci-com review platform), novel modes of communication (e.g., leveraging social media, audio/video of posters, etc.), processes, and metrics.Incorporate publication plans for Cogent supported investigator-sponsored trials or research to ensure the visibility of the plans for external research collaborationsWhat You Will Bring:Advanced science degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, MS, MS-CGC, MSN, NP, PA)8 years of industry experience with 4 years of experience in scientific communications roles of increasing responsibilityCommand of current good publication practices requiredManagement experience requiredOversight of scientific communications partners requiredExcellent communication skills, verbal and written requiredExtensive experience in the development and implementation of strategic publication plans required (samples of publicationsDemonstrated ability to foster strong partnerships with internal multi-disciplinary teams as well as external thought leaders and other collaborators on Cogent's abstracts, manuscripts, and other scientific communicationsDemonstrated ability to remain poised in challenging situations with prospective and/or confirmed authors, throughout the publication planning and development process, to facilitate the pull-through of Cogent's scientific communication strategy in a respectful manner, following good publication practices, and to meet data dissemination timelinesStrong understanding of the various audiences that must be included in a scientific communications strategy including, but not limited to, investors, healthcare providers, patient advocates, patients, etc.Expertise in the systems and processes involved in abstract and manuscript preparation, submission, correspondence, and finalization of contentDemonstrated success in identifying opportunities to optimize data dissemination to the right audiences, at the right time, and as broadly as possibleDemonstrated strong organizational skills in scientific communicationsHematology/oncology experience requiredRare disease experience preferredAbility to travel -20% (understanding that there will be complexities due to COVID)This role may be office (Massachusetts or Colorado) or field-based (x-United States).
